Microsoft To Roll Its Own App Store: Skymarket
Long Zheng of istartedsomething spotted a couple of job postings that to all appearances make it look like Microsoft is going to create its own App Store like selling mechanism apparently around the launch of Windows Mobile 7. According to the job postings it looks like the codename is Skymarket. As Long Zheng points out there obvious reasons for doing this, the least of which is convenience, which is, in my opinion, a key aspect of mobile computing. There are far more applications for Windows Mobile devices currently than there are on for Apple’s relatively new iPhone, and their are also many distribution points as well, which can lead to some confusion.
This will be interesting to follow, although I don’t think Microsoft will entirely abandon its partnership model to be a sole App Store like gatekeeper.
