NVidia Really Wants Some Netbook Action

nvidia-tegra-hp-mini-01-smNVidia really wants to get into the great Netbook race and it looks like they are out to turn some heads.

At CTIA they are showing off a HP Mini 1000 that they’ve replaced the Intel guts with the NVidia Tegra system. It is running Windows CE and from the video on Engadget, it looks like this prototype is running through some Internet paces pretty smoothly.

    This would be the perfect replacement for my Mobilepro 790. I had to retire it since it won’t sync with Vista.

    Nvidia, give it exchange 2007 support and a way to sync documents and I’ll buy it. All the multimedia stuff is cool too.

    I don’t get this at all. One of the best portable devices I’ve ever used was a HP Jornada 820. Small laptop form factor, 2 pounds, 640×480 display, decent keyboard, 10 hour battery life, booted in 2-3 seconds, it was slick. And it ran Windows CE. That was the reason I ultimately quit using it. Had to convert Word/Excel/All files to use on it, most applications were not available for it, it was just too limited. I love the netbook idea, but not with CE. It has to run a full OS or it’s not worth the effort. And…I bought my 820 close to ten years ago. That ship has sailed.
