Windows Live Mesh and Dropbox: Doing a Redundant Sync

cloud_5B1_5DIn a recent post about my redundant back up strategies, GBM Reader davv suggested another redundancy that I haven’t thought of. He mentioned that he was using a combination of Windows Live Mesh and Dropbox to sync the same directories, thereby insuring that he had the same files in both of those respective clouds. I finally got around to giving this a try and it works quite well.

Essentially what I’m doing is syncing the My Dropbox folder by making it a Windows Live Mesh folder. What gets dumped into My Dropbox makes it way to my Mesh and voila, another redundancy created. Keep in mind, I mostly use this for current files that I am working with at the moment and don’t use this for offline storage of massive amounts of data.

    I’m planning on using dropbox with my sugarsync account to get cross-platform syncing between Linux and Windows.

    Nice! I have to give this a try after I finish cleaning up all my files. I just wish dropbox gave a few more free gigabytes.
