Netbook Navigator wants to be your source for tablets

netbook-navigator-tabletCombine the name recognition of netbooks with the hype surrounding tablets and you’ll get Netbook Navigator, “an exclusive specialty online retailer of top-of-the-line Mobile Internet Devices, with a core focus on wireless touch screen Tablet Netbooks.” Look, they even managed to sneak in “MID” into their tag line. Always nice to have a resource for all our favorite things. But if you think “netbook” means low-cost, think again.

Registration is necessary to see pricing, which apparently was a smart move. Liliputing took the plunge and discovered a price tag of $1199 for a 8.9″ slate with netbook-level guts. It is a premium package with multitouch display, 32GB SSD, Windows 7 Home Premium, and integrated 3G, but the 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 2GB memory, and 1024 x 600 resolution are basic netbook-level. Nearly the same machine as the Asus T91MT for twice the price. Its main advantage is 3G but that’s easily filled with a Mifi. Sorry guys, you have a premium netbook, but not quite premium enough for the price.

Update: As noted in the comments, Liliputing reports a cheaper base unit will be offered for $799.  More reasonable, but still a hard sell against other cheaper netbooks.

    Liliputing.com added an update to their article saying that the company will be offering a base model later in 2010 for “significantly lower” than the listed prices. I wonder what that means? Would be nice if I could get one for under $1,000…

    what are they thinking? don’t they know that there is archos 9 for half the price. This slate got “FAIL” written all over it.

    These guys have been dumping irrelevant comments on my youtube videos. They’ve dropped by on my Motion F5 / Win7 video to inform everyone that they should visit netbook navigator for a more powerful tablet that runs windows 7 (Like say an Atom Vs Core 2 Duo?)… hmmm

    Very annoying… They should get their facts straight and find somewhere relevant for their comments. You would think that they should be able to tell the difference between a touchscreen netbook and a field tablet. Probably some dodgy outsourced SEO company.
