A tablet that isnt an iPad- AIS

S10_f11Just to prove to you all that all tablet news isnt about the Apple iPad, here is another vendor ready to take a shot at the iPad crown, the AIS Outdoor Rugged Tablet PC.

The specifications on this:

There is no pricing information on this yet.

It is nice to see something other than the iPad coming out.  While the AIS may not be ideal, its only a first generation device.  Vendors are still trying to “get all the kinks” out before they try to compete with Apple.  I am sure this is only the first of many tablets to come over the next few months.

    Guess I missed the previous story about how the iPad was taking a shot at, say, the Xplore iX104C3DV’s crown.

    Oh, wait, that story wasn’t written – because it would have been absurd.

    Really, is there no limit to the acceptable use of the iPad as headline fodder? This tablet has absolutely nothing to do with the iPad or the iPad’s target market. AIS is in no way whatsoever preparing to “take a shot at the iPad crown” (whatever that may be, seeing as AIS has shipped as many of these tablets as Apple has shipped iPads).

    But thanks for the non-iPad news. I guess. Still love ya, Zunk. :-)

    I’m sorry, was I accidentally sucked into a vortex that dumped me into a parallel universe where Apple had tablets out for years and Windows machines just got into the game? ‘Cause none of that article makes a lick of sense!

    Competing with Apple? On ruggedized military spec hardware meant for professionals and military personnel to do actual work?

    Really? Really really?

    Two reasons this will ultimately fail:
    1) It is being compared to ipad, even though the frame of reference is non existent.
    2) Unless there is a very good proprietary UI, Embedded XP will be the straw to break the camel’s back.

    And to feed the flame war that is starting around the web:
    ipad is not and will never be able to compare to tablet pc’s. The difference in customer and software base is just too great – ipad will never be more than a toy, while the tablet pc, both current and future(if development stay on the same course), is a workstation.

    Why in the world does this have XP Embedded. Is there even any touch or pen support outside ot XP Tablet?
