Microsoft’s Concept Translating Phone

Warner Crocker —  03/02/2010

Microsoft is showing off some pretty amazing technology at TechFest. Todd Bishop and others got a chance to take a look at what is being called the Translating Phone. It not only makes a transcription of your conversation that becomes searchable in Exchange, but it also translates in real time a voice conversation that you might be having with someone who speaks a different language.

Obviously this isn’t letter perfect at the moment, and there’s no hint of when it might become a product, but I have to say, the demo looks pretty cool.

  1. Universal Translater, old hat

They’ve had these on Star trek since the 60′s
    –LOL–

  2. The english translation of the german words is pretty good. Unfortunately he muted the german speaking output. That would be interesting too, but I think it’s not as good as the english translation.
