AT&T not throttling uploads on purpose

Good news everyone! Turns out AT&T is not reducing your wireless upload speeds on purpose. Rather, an equipment bug is to blame. A fix is in the works for all you folks who normally enjoy their HSUPA speeds. I am not one of those folks.

Via BGR:

“AT&T and Alcatel-Lucent jointly identified a software defect — triggered under certain conditions – that impacted uplink performance for Laptop Connect and smartphone customers using 3G HSUPA-capable wireless devices in markets with Alcatel-Lucent equipment. This impacts less than two percent of our wireless customer base. While Alcatel-Lucent develops the appropriate software fix, we are providing normal 3G uplink speeds and consistent performance for affected customers with HSUPA-capable devices.”

Conducting speed tests today, I remain unaffected by this problem, if only because I’m not in an area covered by HSUPA or High-Speed Uplink Packet Access. So until the fix is in, have fun driving in the slow lane with me.
