$150 Augen Tablet Coming to Kmart This Week?

Published

on

Who knew and who knows. According to Engadget we might actually see one of those Android Tablets later this week, and we might actually see it at Kmart. Called the GenTouch 78, the 7 inch tablet is made by Augen, will have a price tag of $150 and will be running Android 2.1. It will have WiFi, 2GB of storage and 256MB of RAM. It will also have access to the Andorid Market Place. Supposedly this has appeared in Kmart circulars, but know one has laid their eyes or hands on one yet.

Augen is a Florida based company and they are also coming out with a 7 inch eBook Reader as well.

UPDATE: Here’s a link to the product page at Kmart.

At least 3 in my area. I checked in on my way to work this morning and they have it listed for sale and an empty spot in the display case for it. But they haven’t seen units delivered as of yet.

Kmart brought Sears. Come to think about it, I have a Sears card with a zero balance and it can be used at all Kmart stores. I think I may drop by Kmart after work and see if it has the required buttons (visual or hard).

None at the Kmart I checked earlier today in #STL – see picture of blank spot with $169 card and plenty of eBook readers for $99 below it on my twitter stream @RexDixon . The employee seemed annoyed and said the truck just came in, and didn’t know if they received any in this shipment.

Any specs? If this has something better than the 600MHz Rockchip 2808, I might be first in line for one of these. But I need to know it is better, at least spec-wise, than the Archos 7 Home Tablet.

Comments: looks like it does not natively charge over USB (same as the Archos 7 Home Tablet); wonder if it has native USB Host; uses ebookmedia.com as its bookstore, no experience with this outlet; haven’t seen anything on battery life yet. Would be nice if it has a kickstand.
