AT&T has announced that it will be bringing its 4G LTE network to five markets this summer, a list that includes major metropolitan areas but leaves out New York City and San Francisco.

AT&T

The carrier had announced that it would be rolling out 4G LTE starting sometime this fall and now we finally have the first five markets that will be lit up in glorious 4G LTE at some point during the months of June, July or August.

The cities that AT&T will be seeing 4G LTE this summer are:

  • Atlanta
  • Chicago
  • Dallas
  • Houston
  • San Antonio

Those won’t be the only cities seeing 4G LTE from AT&T this year. In fact, the carrier also confirmed that 10 more markets will see 4G LTE service before the end of 2011. And by the end of the year, 70 million people will have access to AT&T’s 4G network.

While AT&T currently has no 4G LTE compatible handsets, it did confirm that it will have some out before the end of the year, one of which will likely be the HTC Puccini tablet. If you recall, Verizon’s 4G LTE network only hosted modems for a couple of months before the arrival of the HTC ThunderBolt.
