HTC Omega Windows Phone Believed to Sport 1.5 GHz Snapdragon

Additional details about the HTC Omega smartphone was leaked and now the next-generation Windows Phone 7 device is believed to be launched with Microsoft’s Mango software update as a second-generation phone. The device is said to be the successor to the HTC 7 Mozart, and will have a smaller 3.8-inch display rather than the larger 4.3-inch screens on the HTC HD7 and the HTC HD7S.

Leaked specs for the device include an SLCD touchscreen with a WVGA resolution, an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and 720p HD video recording, Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, FM radio, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and HSDPA and HSUPA connectivity for 3G. As the specs currently are for European 3G radio bands, it’s unclear if HTC will release a variant of the HTC Omega for the U.S. market. Also, as the maximum download speeds for the Omega is 7.2 Mbps, this device will be a 3G HSPA device rather than a 4G HSPA+ smartphone.

The leaked specs for the phone did not mention a front-facing camera.

Not a lot more information is known about the phone, and sadly there aren’t any leaked images of the device at this time. For now, the Windows Phone 7 Mango-powered HTC Omega may be among the first smartphones to get a speed bump to a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon CPU, up from the first generation crop of Windows Phone devices that ran on a single-core 1.0 GHz CPU.
