A new report from AppleInsider claims that Apple might be preparing to roll out its latest version of mobile software, iOS 5, on or around October 10th. That date comes from a source that claims that Apple has informed AppleCare, it’s customer service arm, that it should expect an influx of iOS-related calls starting Monday, October 10th which means that that might be the date that Apple rolls out the new software for current iPhone owners.

Update: Learn more about the iOS 5 Release Date and What to Expect from iOS 5. iOS 5 will arrive for owners of previous iPhone models on October 12th.

The source indicated that his local AppleCare call center has been told to expect an eightfold increase in calls on the 10th.

iOS 5

If true, this could also mean that that mid-October release date for the iPhone 5 could be true. Apple has a penchant for releasing major software upgrades before the launch of its new hardware with iPhone OS 3.0 being released on June 17th and the iPhone 3GS released on June 19th.

Last year, Apple released iOS 4.0 released on June 21st and released the iPhone 4 on June 24th.

AT&T and Verizon are both expected to get the new iPhone and Sprint has also been rumored to be a launch partner, although, today a new report claimed that it might just be getting the iPhone 4 in October and not the iPhone 5.

It’s not likely that an iPhone 5 will be release. iPhone 3G was release a year before iOS 3.x was. iOS 3.x was released right before the iPhone 3Gs. So with that logic, iOS 5.x will bring iPhone 4s (which was already confirmed) and iPhone 5 will release next year.

Ahh im tired of waiting, i think ill go with the blackbery9900!! Cmoon apple why that long??? Is there a problem in it?? Whats happening????!!

  3. Keefyboy says:

Give Apple a break dammit! How about you all try to run a multi-billion dollar organization, be first in innovation AND release a completely new, shocking and satisfying device almost EVERY QUARTER OF EVERY YEAR if you include its line of iPods, iPhones and iPads? Didn’t think so. Apple knows what they’re doing, patience is a virtue my friend.

    • Stuartmain says:

      I agree !!!

    • Nonapplefanboy says:

Innovative?? Name one piece of technology that Apple has invented??

      Mp3 player?? -nope
      Computing technology? – nope
      Tablet?- nope
      Mobile phone? – nope

They have simply refined what others have done, placed their own restrictions on it, packaged it and gotten very rich from it!!

      • Rlee says:

Um.. Mate that’s pretty much what innovation is described as. Refining and adding new features to an existing product. What you mean to say is Apple hasn’t INVENTED anything new. Completely different thing.

      • Gilbertgodoy says:

Hey, they “re-invented” the phone in ’07. So you’re wrong with the mobile phone part.

      • Anonymous says:

Actually, you are wrong.  First handheld was released by Apple.  It was called the Newton.  Apple has been on the forefront since the Woz was building things in his garage.  Sorry buddy, but you don’t have to be a “fanboy” to acknowledge Apple has helped to change the world and we have all kinds of neat gadgets to thank them for.  BTW, No one has been able to touch them in touchscreen accuracy because they have a patent on their algorithm and no one has come up with anything better yet.  So, again, you’re wrong.  HTC on the other hand gets hit with patent lawsuits every other day it seems like…  Maybe we will see some innovation from Google; however, intel has not been able to touch an ARM based processor so we shall see.

      • Criss says:

NOT inventing. innovation was said. No one said anything about “creating” anything.

      • Tony says:

Hey remember the Macintosh and it’s GUI, yeah nothing big there it’s just the basis for every computer currently manufactured.

      • they uhm… kind of invented personal computing….

        • 00 Matt says:

They stole it. Is that what you meant to say?
Not trying to be negative, but that’s all Apple & Microsoft(And most companies) do.

      • Laquanda says:

apple made an operating system and everyone else has tried to copy it

  15. Lawtonmanning says:

I don’t really know or follow what has happened with the releases of iPhone, iPad, or iPod. But I do think Apple would have announced the new iPhone at least a month before release to give people time to pre-order, spread the news, etc. If it is true that the announcement on October 4th is about the next iPhone, the actual phone may not be out until November.

  18. Y Virmani says:

If an iphone4s is confirmed I can’t really see iPhone 5 coming out at the same time. It don’t make sense to cuz people won’t bother with the ip4S and they will just go for ip5 and if that happens it’s a very big loss of time and money for bringing out the ip4S. Maybe possible for ip5 sometime mid next year!

  21. Jackie says:

why would anyone want an iPhone anyway? Android is much more useful than iOS

    • Aaron Stacy says:

Because, any Apple product is super simple(once you get used to it) and they are all compatable with one another since they run iOS. Also, theres tons of phones that run on Android, which makes it harder to design applications, because the application would have to be made different for every single different Android-driven device. Thats why I choose the iPhone over Android.
