Galaxy Nexus Release Date Pushed to December 15th on Verizon?

Published

on

The Galaxy Nexus release date has changed more often than a chameleon sitting on a color wheel.

Originally believed to launch today, December 9th, on the Verizon 4G LTE network, a brief outage earlier this week could be to blame for a delay. We had heard that the Galaxy Nexus would arrive on December 13th, but that date looks like it will pass by without a Galaxy Nexus release.

We have just heard from multiple sources that the Galaxy Nexus release date for Verizon has been the rescheduled for Thursday December 15th.

Galaxy Nexus Release Date

This new release date comes from multiple authorized Verizon retailers in different states. When one of our staff stopped in to ask about purchasing the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon, the employee looked down at her screen and told him that the Galaxy Nexus should be available for purchase next Thursday, December 15th.

This is great news for the many users who have been waiting and waiting for what looks to be the best Android phone to arrive on Verizon this year.

The Galaxy Nexus has a 4.65″ HD curved display, 4G LTE connectivity, 32GB of Storage, Micro SD card Slot, NFC, 1GB RAM and a 1.2GHz dual core processor. The Galaxy Nexus will be the first phone to run Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, on Verizon’s fast 4G LTE network.

Check out a Hands on Video of the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon, which shows the speed of the 4G LTE network.

Stay tuned for more Galaxy Nexus news.

This is not great news…great news would be that Verizon stops messing things up and release the phone today the 9th as it should have.  They have it in stores just sitting there collecting dust.  ridiculous

With the 4G issues they’re having right now, I don’t think releasing a new 4G device to flood the network is a great idea. It sucks to wait another week to get the phone but so be it if that means we get solid consistent 4G connections as a result.

Do you really think the “LTE outage” was the reason for Verizon delaying the launch of the Galaxy  Nexus?  Verizon is still selling Droid Razr and Rezound during the outage.  Verizon even launched the Droid Xybroard today.

Verizon is not delaying the launch because of LTE outage.

Verizon knows that the regular consumers will buy the Rezound or the Razr.  The die-hard adroid fans will wait for the eventual Nexus launch.  A small minority of consumers will leave for other carriers but that is only a small minority.

I use to check the web every other hour, hoping to get the latest news of the Nexus but I lost interest.  I started experimenting on my OG Droid.  I rooted the phone and put custom ROMS and themes.

I might even wait a week or two after Verizon releases this phone because it isn’t that important.  My new Rooted OG Droid is running pretty good and I am contempt with my current situation.

Verizon is not really going to sell the Nexus. The Nexus will not be in the display of the store. It will be kept in the storage cage in the back of the store. The only way to get a Nexus is to ask for one, but that is only after you let an employee show and tell you every other single phone in the store for at least an hour. Then and only then you can request a Nexus in the back, but you’ll need the password in order for them to sell you

For me, today would have optimal but Dec 15th is fine.  I just hope it actually does come out on that date.  No more delays.  Since the phone is already in the stores, I will go Wednesday evening to my local Verizon store before they close and see if I can get one a little early or at least reserve one.

So because you lack patience, you will be kicking yourself next Thursday when the Nexus comes out and everyone starts raving about it.  The phones are now in stock in the stores.  Oh yeah, if you get a Skyrocket watch out, it may catch fire in your pants.  I hope more people lose patience like you have as it will be easier for people like me to get a Nexus next Thursday.

      • Cer

        12/09/2011 at 9:34 am

You’re really getting your hopes up. The phone is no more likely to be released on the 15th than it was going to be released today.

That said, people really shouldn’t be this impatient. But it has become Verizon’s pattern to push DROID products over all else. They owe George Lucas a boatload of money.

Lack of patience? how much patience is one supposed to have the thing was supposed to release before black friday and then yesterday and then today and people have to wait again and again and again while the phone itself just gets worse looking because verizon has to put their carrier crap on it probably Carrier IQ and deface the nexus name just to sell some more Razrs and its working.

Delayed? When did Verizon ever announce an official release date from which point you claim the release to be delayed?

      • Anonymous

        12/09/2011 at 2:25 pm

They may have not announced a date, but it’s now about a month later than what the plans were (Keep in mind that the GPRS version’s OUT already- the plan was roughly simultaneous rollouts.)

i think the Galaxy Nexus will be outdated by the time Verizon releases this phone..
2012 CES show is around the corner and everyone will be kicking themselves when they see the new releases of phones coming,    damn you Verizon!!

    • BrianB13

      12/09/2011 at 9:11 am

The trouble with your logic is that yes next gen phones will be announced at CES but in most cases, will not come out for months after CES.  I’m not waiting that long.  If an absolutely incredible phone comes out next year, I’ll buy it anyway.  If the GNex doesn’t hold up, I will probably get an iPhone 5 when it comes out.

      • Jay

        12/09/2011 at 9:48 am

I agree Brian. Remember when the Bionic was announced?? CES 2011 I believe. Then look when it was released. Later in the year, and on top of that, there were issues with some of them. Those new devices that CES 2012 will be presenting won’t be released right away. Usually takes 3-4 months, maybe longer depending on the carrier.

    • Anonymous

      12/09/2011 at 11:04 am

NO, not really. This will most likely be the only chance to get a Nexus device on VZW so no matter what releases in the near future (which should be better I would hope, otherwise what would be the point) the Nexus will still have one huge advantage. While everyone else is waiting for their updates to be tweaked and bloated with Sense, Touchwiz, Motoblur and carrier crap, I will be receiving my updates as soon as google releases them.

    • Anonymous

      12/09/2011 at 2:16 pm

I won’t be surprised if they decide to cancel it with the way things are going i hope they do because they destroyed everything Nexus essentially stands for

      • Tysoncrosby21

        12/09/2011 at 3:13 pm

Phones are already in stores…..which means Verizon has paid for them…..I would put money the “delay” stems from the 4G issues, they don’t want thousands of new 4G phones (that you know people are going to be using data like crazy on) to flood the network and cause further network outages. I don’t mind waiting a few days more if it means I will have solid network capabilities on release.

they wanna put there crapware all over it before they release.. got mine already yesterday :) I live in toronto at bell $649.00 off contract!! Still had to buy a sim 30 day one $10.00 but its unlocked anyways :) sent from galaxy nexus unlocked bootloader franco’s kernel overclocked 1.4ghz 340mhz oh ya :)

    • Anonymous

      12/09/2011 at 10:56 am

ITS A NEXUS! That means no crapware! They put Backup Assistant on the phone so customers can transfer their contacts and My Verizon app because with tiered data planes they are required to provide a way of accurately tracking your data use to prevent overages! Call it what you want, but that’s not bloat! Imagine all the people who are not tech smart that will by this phone, take it home and when they cant get their contacts transferred over, freak out and VZW tech support gets flooded with thousands of calls! Anyone who doesn’t like bloatware most likely will be unlocking the boot loader and flashing zip aligned OC’ed custom roms anyway.

    • Anonymous

      12/13/2011 at 8:48 am

How can they put their crapware on it when the phone is already sitting in stores? This post is FAIL! Also, you are using the GSM version if you are talking about unlocking the phone. Yet again, FAIL! I blame you and Canada for the lack of release…. Flapping heads…

Verizon delays the release of all non-DROID products. Thunderbolt delayed for months, Galaxy Nexus delayed for weeks, and turning into over a month. Verizon doesn’t take pre-orders on either, and only provides the release date mere days before, because it doesn’t really care when it gets released.

And so while the Galaxy Nexus languishes, Verizon launches two DROID tablets. This isn’t a coincidence.

This phone won’t be released on the 15th. No way.

    This is crazy!

I remember hearing about this phone back in early October, and with speculated release dates “sometime in November,” and even that seemed far away!

For me, all these delays have been annoying but bearable, since all along I’ve planned on buying this phone for Christmas anyways.  But now I’m not even sure if it will be out in time for Christmas!  How ridiculous!

Corporate tricks makes cosumers sick. I really hate Verizon now. They are mishandling the release of this popular device to the point that I couldn’t care less about it anymore. I’ll keep the phone I have. Piss off VZW

    • Evie

      12/09/2011 at 10:06 am

Yeah right, everyone always says this when there is a delay. Remember me when you are ordering the Nexus in a couple weeks…

      • Anonymous

        12/09/2011 at 10:38 am

To say that you are giving up on the phone because of VZW is plain silly. I fell this is going to be the only chance to get a Nexus device on the VZW network and although im just as irritated about the delay as anyone else, I will also be the first one in line to get one! This will be the last phone I buy from VZW for a really long time!

And that was because they’d dropped the name off of the phone they were going to run with the moniker (Because it was very subpar…) and slapped the name on a better device that was going to be called the “Targa”.

Relax people, they’re in the stores, locked up in the back… They’re definitely coming out next week.  Some guy over on droid-life.com talked a guy at Radio Shack into selling him one (yes, he has photos).  The sales guy at Verizon I spoke with last night all but confirmed a release date with me.

    • Anonymous

      12/09/2011 at 2:28 pm

They might be in hand…but the way that Verizon’s handling this is…more than merely obnoxious.  It’s being poorly done from start to finish.

I’m waiting for quad cores now. Samsung/Google should be infuriated with Verizon and how stupid they are. They are trying to push the Droid Razr down more peoples throats before they have to release a better phone onto the market. NO ONE LIKES DROID BRANDED PHONES!

    • Thefishkid1

      12/09/2011 at 12:00 pm

I am still rocking the OG droid and it has been the best phone I have ever owned. And I can’t think of a single app, program, or os feature that will use 4 cores. Desktop application don’t even utilize quad cores to their full potential.

      • Newton83

        12/09/2011 at 12:32 pm

Doesn’t need to be a single app that uses all 4 cores, you can offload background tasks to the unused cores and allow the active app to get more out of the cores that it does use.  No one is planning on running distributed simulations or anything lol

Still don’t believe this unless I hear it straight from Verizon. I went to my local corporate Verizon store on my lunch break and the woman there gave me the same answer as she did last week: “There is no word on a release date as of now.”

  23. Tom Hostic

    12/09/2011 at 11:42 am

I heard that the reason for the delay is that Verizon is having all the 5mb camera’s switched out with 8mb units. At least that’s what Jessica Alba told me last night in my dream.

FWIW…went to my Verizon store here in Alabama today because I was testing the Razr and the Rezound to decide which one I should buy.  I was tired of the waiting game for the Nexus.  Anyway, an associate offered to help me and I told her well if she really wanted to help me, she could tell me when the Nexus will be for sale.  She said, “I can’t tell you”, and smiled.  I told her I expected that answer and then she leaned in toward me and said, “Look, I can tell you that it soing to be SOON.”  I asked how soon and she said before Christmas.  I then told her we were only 2 weeks out right now.  She then said that if she had to “guess” and winked at me, that it would be out by the 15th.  I put down the Razr and left thanking her.  She may be wrong, probably is, but what the hell, I’ve waited this long another week won’t hurt.  Besides I loved the Rezound and the Razr and couldn’t decide either way yet.

Came across this headline and thought I’d share this since it matches.  Nexus rumors…here we go again.

I was at a Verizon retailer tonight and was looking at the other phones because I was sick of waiting and they had a display model of the Galaxy Nexus and they said that it will be released next Thursday (12/15).  I felt pretty comfortable with that answer especially since they already had the dummy phone on display.
