NBC To Stream the Super Bowl
NBC has announced that it will stream the Super Bowl on its website and via Verizon’s NFL Mobile App. This will be the first time that the biggest game of the professional football year will be available on Smartphone (assuming you’re a Verizon customer) and via the Web. The Super Bowl is always the highest rated game on TV and coverage and the game continues to dominate every facet of the entertainment and marketing world for what has become almost a national holiday surrounding the game. (Side note: We don’t even schedule a performance on the day of the Super Bowl at the theatre where I work.)
NBC will also be streaming games on Wild Card Saturday and the Pro Bowl.
NBC has been streaming its Sunday night games for quite some time now. The Super Bowl streaming will offer in game highlights, multiple camera angles, and stats for those who like a little more than just the live action.
I’m typically attending the annual UPTA conference in Memphis on the day of the game along with a bunch of other theatre geeks. I always feel sorry for the actors who are auditioning that day as some theatres schedule callback interviews around the game. I’m guessing this year we’ll see folks walking up and down the halls of the conference hotel, and standing in line for appointments watching the game on their smartphones.
