Verizon Confirms New iPad Goes on Sale at 3AM on Friday

Verizon has confirmed to us that it will be taking orders online for Apple’s third-generation iPad, which launches this Friday on March 16th, starting at 3AM on Friday. Specifically, 3AM Eastern. Those that aren’t able or aren’t willing to stay up that late to put in an order through Big Red’s website will then have to brave the elements and head down to a retail store.

The carrier has said that its retail locations will be opening up at 8AM sharp on Friday so as to coincide with the opening of Apple Stores which will be opening at the same time.

Verizon generally has next-day shipping available but the carrier says it doesn’t know if it will be for Monday or not. We’re guessing that it will, but it’s not clear at the moment.

Apple and Verizon won’t be the only ones selling the device though.

Best Buy will also have inventory available on Friday, inventory that just started arriving today, taunting those that will either be lining up for a chance to buy one or those that have placed an order that won’t arrive for several weeks.

Pre-orders for Apple’s new tablet are currently sold out in every launch country and shipping times are currently two to three weeks. We expect that to increase once the device goes on sale Friday.

Verizon, along with AT&T, will play host to the 4G LTE iPad variant. The LTE version of the iPad will be able to pull down data speeds that can reach up to 10 times faster than those obtained on normal 3G.

You can check out those speeds in the video below:

Those picking up a 4G LTE iPad through Verizon will also be subject to data charges when using the carrier’s network. Verizon has four pre-paid options available as well as three month-to-month data plan options to choose from.

They look like this:

Pre-Paid

  • $20 for 1GB data
    $30 for 2GB data
    $50 for 5GB data
    $80 for 10GB data

Month-to-Month

  • $30 for 2GB data
    $50 for 50GB data
    $80 for 10GB data

Verizon will charge a $35 activation fee for those signing up for the month-to-month service while there is no charge for the pre-paid options.

Apple’s new iPad, in addition to the 4G LTE options, features a new high-resolution Retina Display, a powerful dual-core A5X processor  with quad-core graphics, and an upgraded camera.

Those looking to place an order online through Verizon on Friday morning will be able to do so at its website.
