HTC Flip-Flopping on HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich Update?

Published

on

While on the surface HTC keeps proclaiming that the HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update will indeed be rolling out sometime during the month of August, we have heard that it has been going back and forth about the release of the update.

We are hearing that internally, HTC is flip-flopping constantly over whether to update Verizon’s HTC ThunderBolt with Ice Cream Sandwich. A source has informed us that while one day HTC says that it plans to roll the update out, the next day the company backtracks.

This of course is much different than the tone that the company has been taking publicly as it has taken to Facebook to assure HTC ThunderBolt owners that the update is indeed coming and coming this month.

A similar thing happened with the HTC Desire HD, a device that is similar to the HTC ThunderBolt, and saw its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update get cancelled.

HTC, at first, said that the update was going to roll out as planned. Then, it backtracked on those statements saying that it was still evaluating the Desire HD’s performance and then soon after that, it cancelled the update altogether.

Keep in mind, the HTC Desire HD was originally on HTC’s list of devices receiving the update and it was crossed off the list when the cancellation occurred.

Now, we’re not saying that the same thing is going to happen to the HTC ThunderBolt, only that we are hearing that HTC is apparently back and forth right now about whether to release the software.

HTC has yet to inform HTC ThunderBolt owners about a release date for the Ice Cream Sandwich update and we have yet to see any final versions of it leak out in ROM form, something that tends to happen in the build up to its release.

We’ve also seen HTC completely miss a scheduled roll out window with the HTC Rezound ICS update.

And while it might be tough for HTC ThunderBolt owners to be optimistic right now, due to all of the uncertainty, we do think that HTC will end up rolling out the ThunderBolt ICS update.

When are all of the smartphone makers, dealers and distributors going to get their heads together and bring back the old Google Security Service that was in place prior to January 2012 that actually succeeded in getting people to be able to sync their email addresses to their phones. It seems Google has let down every single company that relies on Google to satisfy their customers email syncing needs. When is this going to change?
