Apple Announces New iPod Touch with 4-inch Display, Siri & Better Camera
Apple announced a new iPod Touch today with a larger 4-inch display, better camera and Siri.
This is the 5th generation iPod Touch. The new iPod Touch is the first real upgrade to the iPod Touch line since 2010, and a much-needed update.
The iPhone stole much of the iPod Touch’s thunder, but this update shows Apple did not forget about the users that rely on the iPod Touch instead of the iPhone.
The new iPod Touch boasts a 4-inch Retina Display with 1136 x 640 resolution. this is the same display as in the iPhone 5, so users will enjoy a widescreen movie and gaming benefits as on the new iPhone.
The new iPod touch is 6.1mm thick and is available in black and white. The 5th generation iPod Touch is the lightest iPod Touch yet, weighing 88 grams. the back of the new iPod Touch is different, with what appears to be a small button on the lower left.
When this button is pressed, it allows the iPod Touch Loop to connect as a wrist strap.
The iPod Touch 5th generation uses the Apple A5 dual core processor which is 2 times faster than the old iPod Touch and includes dual-core graphics.
The new iPod Touch uses the same smaller Lightning dock connector as the iPhone 5. This is a smaller dock connector with a reversible connection so users can plug it in either way.
The iPod Touch battery is slated to last 40 hours of music playback and 8 hours of video playback.
The new iPod Touch receives a camera upgrade with a 5MP sensor, backside illumination, a five element lens, new LED flash and the Saphire lens we saw in the iPhone 5. Overall this looks like a good camera upgrade. The camera also shoots 1080P HD video. The phone gains a 720P front facing camera and it includes Bluetooth 4.0.
The new iPod Touch includes Siri with iOS 6, so users can enjoy all the Siri benefits shown in the video below. Unfortunately there’s no way to use this when you’re mobile.
The iPod Touch comes in five colors. The new iPod touch starts at $299 for 32GB and arrives in October.
