After a successful Kickstarter campaign the MetaWatch Strata is almost ready to ship, but first MetaWatch wants to give us a look at how the watch works with iOS 6.
The first of the two videos shows the MetaWatch app for iOS and how it controls the watch. Users can use the app to set which widgets show on the Strata’s screen. Each screen can hold between one and four widgets which can show a variety of information.
The video shows a calendar widget, a stock widget, a widget for the iPhone battery information, a weather widget, and of course a clock widget. Developers will get a chance to create more widgets for the watch, and we’ll probably see more when the Strata is actually available.
The second video shows one of the biggest features of the Strate watch when connected to an iPhone running iOS 6. With iOS 6 the iPhone can push SMS messages to the MetaWatch Strata over Bluetooth. The messages take a second to appear on the watch’s screen, but when they do users can preview their messages right on their watch.
Users still need to respond to SMS messages on their iPhones, but with the Strata they can determine if they want to respond right away or not. It’s great for situations where you don’t want to take out your phone every few minutes, but want to respond to important messages quickly.
The MetaWatch Strata should start shipping to Kickstarter backers in mid-October, only a few weeks late of the September release, but still likely before the Pebble ships. We don’t know when the MetaWatch Strata will be available for those who didn’t back the project on Kickstarter, but we hope it’s soon.
