iOS 6.1 Jailbreak for iPhone 5, iPad 4 Out Soon After iOS 6.1 Release

The Evad3rs jailbreak team plans to skip the iOS 6 jailbreak and jump straight to a public release of the iOS 6.1 jailbreak for the iPhone 5, iPad 4, iPad mini and other apple devices.

We;ve heard that the wait for the iOS 6 jailbreak was dependent on the iOS 6.1 release date for some time, but public chatter indicated an iOS 6 jailbreak, which would leave jailbreakers one version behind.

It turns out that the team working on an iOS 6 jailbreak has also been working on an iOS 6.1 jailbreak, using the iOS 6.1 beta 4 to test the jailbreak process. In an interview with Cult of Mac the team confirms they are ready to test their iOS 6.1 jailbreak as soon as the iOS 6.1 release date.

Speaking to Cult of Mac, Nikias Bassen, who goes by @pimskeks, confirmed the focus on an iOS 6.1 jailbreak saying,

We already focused on 6.1 beta 4 and we expect it to work with 6.1 GM,

The team hopes this work will carry over to the iOS 6.1 GM, a final beta that we expect to see today or Monday January 28th. This new version will give the evad3rs the chance to test their iOS 6.1 jailbreak on the near-final version of iOS 6.1.

“swift untethered iOS 6.1 jailbreak release”

Cyril, better known to jailbreakers as @pod2g, warns, “A few times in the past they added heavy security features in the GM,” which could delay the IOS 6.1 jailbreak release.

Up until this interview Gotta Be Mobile believed we would see an iOS 6 jailbreak release, but based on the confirmation from the group of iOS hackers it’s clear the team is planning to deliver a swift untethered iOS 6.1 jailbreak release.

An iOS 6.1 jailbreak is coming soon.

The iOS 6.1 jailbreak will support all devices running iOS 6.1 according to the interview. This includes the,

  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPad 4
  • iPad 3
  • iPad 2
  • iPad mini
  • iPod Touch 5th gen
  • iPod Touch 4th gen

An iOS 6 jailbreak for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4th generation is available now, but it is a tethered jailbreak that limits the usability for many users. The iOS 6.1 jailbreak in the works from the evad3rs is an untethered jailbreak, which means users can restart their iPhone or iPad without being plugged in to a computer.

There is a chance that the iOS 6.1 release will bring small changes from the latest beta, which could force jailbreakers to go back to the drawing board and look for new exploits.

Because of this possibility, users should avoid upgrading to iOS 6.1 until the jailbreak is released. It’s a good idea for jailbreakers to stay on the lowest version of iOS available, until a jailbreak solution exists, or risk losing access to jailbreak apps.

If Apple releases the iOS 6.1 GM today, users could see the iOS 6.1 release within the next week or two. By the time the iOS betas reach GM stage most of the bugs are fixed and Apple is testing one final version before quickly shipping iOS 6.1 to users.

Stay tuned for the latest iOS 6 jailbreak news.

See this is where you guys confuse the rest of us. My phone came with iso 6.0. But all reports show the jailbreak works on 6.0.1 and 6.0.2. Now u guys say stay on lowest firmware available. If I stay on6.0 and 6.1 firmware is released. And the jailbreak works on 6.0.2 then I’m screwed because as u know I wouldn’t be able to update to 6.0.2 for the jailbreak. This needs to be cleared up! Do we stay on 6.0 or update to 6.0.2?!

    • Armageda says

Save your 6.02 SHSH blobs right now using RedSn0w, so you would be able to upgrade to 6.0.2 even after Apple is done signing it.

    • The truth says

I was the same. Save all shshblobs for 6.0. Planetbeing confirmed he is running a 6.0.2 jailbreak, so upgrade to that while you can, Save all blobs again, DO NOT update to 6.1 on release until devs confirm to do so

  2. fenix says

why not release the ios 6 jailbreak 1st then the ios 6.1 jailbreak cause u did promise that in the 1st place instead of just releasing the 6.1 JB just seems stupid 2 me who cares if its one version behind its usually that way anyway

    • Michael says

Because apple might fix these exploits so that they cannot be used in ios6.1. Better to wait and hope they don’t fix the exploits and use these to jailbreak ios6.1 as well.

    • The truth says

Because the exploits will then be out there for apple to patch! Dumbass, 6.0.2 is still really buggy, so it’s worth waiting so we get a jail breakable less buggy more up to date os. Dumbass

  3. Lee says

The whole thing has been dragged out too long. I had 5.1.1 jb but a website suckered me into thinking they had the new jb so I updated my iphone to the 6.1 os to find it was only a hoax and lost my jb apps this sucks waiting!

    • The truth says

Lol, what do u expect. 6.1 isn’t even out yet, I’m sure u mean 6.0.2, in which case you will be ok once the new jailbreak is released. Stop being do desperate, I hope u learned your lesson
