Google Maps 1.1 is, by no means a massive update to Google’s application, but it certainly brings some likeable features to the table. The two biggest features include the ability to search Google Contacts, once signed in, to have addresses automatically show up with a person’s name.

The update also brings much faster search for generic category searches which means looking for nearby restaurants, bars and gas stations will have a much easier go of things.

In addition, those are more familiar with kilometers for distances will now be able to choose between it, or using miles. And, per usual, as Google points out, some of the these features may not be available in all countries.

Google Maps is a free download and it’s a nice alternative to the stock Apple Maps applications that arrived to replace Google’s original Maps application all the way back in September.

While Apple has been improving its Maps application, Google Maps for iOS has emerged as an alternative to the native software. Overall, the application boasts a four and a half star rating on the App Store making it one of the most highly rated maps applications available. Traditionally, the application has been optimized for the iPhone 5 as well, meaning those who utilize Apple’s most current iPhone will be treated to a full fledged experience.
