Solavei Now Supports iPhone 5, Nexus 4 & Galaxy S3

Today Solavei announced that it now has nano-SIM cards that will work in the iPhone 5, giving Apple fans another option for a prepaid carrier.

Solavei nano-SIM cards are available from the carrier today for use in the iPhone 5. With the nano-SIM iPhone 5 users can use their unlocked iPhone 5 on the Solavei network without trying to cut down a micro-SIM to fit inside the smartphone.

Solavei hopes to attract iPhone 5 users with no-contract plans that cost $49 per month for unlimited data, SMS and voice minutes. For just $49 a month users can get access to T-Mobile’s “4G” HSPA+ network which Solavei operates on. The plan is much cheaper than two-year contract plans on all carriers.

Solavei’s $49 a month for unlimited everything is also better than similar plans on other prepaid carriers. Sprint MVNO Virgin Mobile, for example, charges $55 a month for similar unlimited plans.

Neither plan is truly unlimited, as both carrier throttle speeds at a certain point. Solavei throttles after users use 4GB compared to Virgin Mobile’s 2.5GB before throttling. The T-Mobile network Solavei uses is often faster than the Sprint network Virgin Mobile uses, as well. Though Virgin Mobile does have access to 4G LTE, which Solavei does not.

Users interested in bringing the iPhone 5 to Solavei will need an unlocked version of the phone. Technically, any model of the iPhone 5 should work as all models, including the Verizon and Sprint model, have the same GSM radios that support the same frequencies.

That means Verizon users should have no problem bringing their phone to the network, though Solavei encourages users to buy an unlocked model either through its retail partner GSM Nation or through Apple itself.

To go along with the iPhone 5 support, Solavei also announced today that it supports a wider range of smartphones including the popular Nexus 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S3.
