The HBO Go app for the iPhone and iPad offer the best way to watch the Game of Thrones Season 3 premier and cheapest way to watch Game of Thrones Seasons 1 and 2 before the premier of the new season on March 31st.
The HBO Go iPad app offers the best Game of Thrones viewing experience to date, beating out the big screen thanks to interactive features that fill in holes in the story and deliver background information to viewers who need to catch up on the Game of Thrones series.
In short the HBO Go iPad app is the best way to watch Game of Thrones and how I plan to watch Game of Thrones Season 3.
HBO GO: Watch Game of Thrones Seasons 1 & 2
The HBO Go app requires a cable or satellite subscription which puts it out of reach for some users, but for anyone who already has a cable subscription this is the cheapest way to watch Game of Thrones Seasons 1, 2 and 3.
The Game of Thrones Seasons on iTunes are $39 each and similarly priced on Amazon Instant Video, DVD and Blu-Ray. In short, it’s going to cost about $80 to watch the first two seasons of Game of Thrones, and then a long wait for the release of Game of Thrones Season 3 on DVD and digital download.
With HBO Go, users pay $15 a month. That translates into $15 to watch the first two seasons of Game of Thrones on the iPad and iPhone or on connected devices like the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Android devices. Even with the price of a basic cable subscription it might be cheaper than buying DVDs for some users.
Sure the total cost of HBO will hit $60 by the time the Game of Thrones Season 3 ends, but it’s still an overall win for the end-user who is saving money over the digital downloads and also gains access to every episode of The Wire, Oz and much more.
With Airplay, users can also watch these Game of Thrones episodes on the Apple TV without paying a fortune to Apple.
Game of Thrones Season 3 on the iPad
The HBO Go app will put users on a slight delay from the season premier, but episodes should go live on the HBO Go app within half an hour or an hour of the season premier ending. From here, users can watch Game of Thrones with the new Interactive features that explain what is happening, family trees, allegiances and much more.
The HBO Go app on the iPhone is how I watched every Game of Thrones Season 2 episode, and how plan to watch Game of Thrones Season 3. Even though I’ve read the books, the extra features, especially the maps, make the viewing experience great on the iPad.
While there are companion Game of Thrones apps, the HBO Go app lets users quickly check something without leaving the app and then waiting for the video to buffer again.
