Samsung Galaxy S4 Active now up for Pre-Order on AT&T
AT&T users looking for a Samsung Galaxy S4 with a more rugged build quality now officially have a new device to possibly call their own. AT&T is offering the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active for pre-order.
Starting today, users on the nation’s second largest mobile network will be able to order the device from AT&T’s website for $199.99 with the price of a two-year service agreement, with arrival on June 18th. Users who prefer to forgo the contract requirement for purchasing devices at a subsidized cost can pick up the Galaxy S4 Active for $594.
AT&T teased that it would be launching a waterproof device just yesterday in a video that showed someone dropping a smartphone into a container of water. Previous leaks had indicated that the device would arrive at AT&T on June 21st, a match for the actual date the device will be in stores.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is completely waterproof and features standard hardware buttons instead of the capacitive buttons that the regular Galaxy S4 does. The rear of the device is made of colored aluminum. The device will come in two different colors on AT&T, “urban grey” and “dive blue.”
Most of the internal components of this variant are nearly identical to the technology included in the Galaxy S4, including the 1.9GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, a 4.99 inch high-definition display and 16GB of onboard storage. Users can add more storage to the device using the microSD card slot.
One thing that won’t be carrying over is the Galaxy S4’s 13 megapixel camera. Instead, the Galaxy S4 Active will come with an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, though users will at least be able to take pictures with that camera easily underwater using the device’s new Aqua Mode. The device will also allow users to turn on the device’s flash by holding the volume key.
According to Samsung, the device is also dust resistant in addition to being water resistance up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. AT&T says that the device will also come with support for the carrier’s LTE network.
