New iPad mini 2 rumors again point to Apple releasing an an iPad mini 2 with Retina Display in 2014.
For months now, rumors have been swirling in regards to the iPad mini 2 and unfortunately, they haven’t been able to agree on one of the biggest features that consumers are looking forward to. Last year’s iPad mini arrived with a non-Retina Display which left consumers disappointed, but didn’t hinder the tablet’s success as the device is reportedly the company’s top selling iPad model.
Rumors of an iPad mini 2 with Retina Display have been rampant in 2013 though not everyone believes Apple will deliver an iPad mini 2 with a Retina quality display this year. A new report from the Taiwanese publication Economic Daily News suggests that Apple will push back an iPad mini with Retina to 2014 due to Retina Display shortages.
Instead, the report claims that Apple pushed back an iPad mini 2 with Retina Display into early 2014 where it may sell it alongside a model that sports non-Retina resolution.
This rumor, like any Apple rumor, should be taken with an extreme grain of salt considering all of the flip-flopping that has been going on in regards to the iPad mini 2’s display. Recently, we saw analysts with NPD DisplaySearch flip-flop on the iPad mini 2, at first claiming that it wouldn’t have it, then claiming that it would, then moving back to its original claim that the iPad mini 2 would come without a Retina Display.
In early June, Citi Research’s Glen Yeung claimed that Apple could deliver a cheaper iPad mini 2 with a $230 to $250 price tag this fall and a separate iPad mini Retina model in late fourth quarter or in the first quarter of 2014. It’s unclear just how the company might position the previous version of the iPad mini should a cheaper iPad mini 2 arrive.
iPad mini 2 rumors have also pegged the device for arrival this fall with a Retina Display so at this point, like most Apple products pre-launch, the iPad mini 2 remains firmly entrenched in the shadows with the exact details likely remaining a secret until the launch event itself.
Rumors suggest that Apple’s new iPad mini 2 will arrive with an upgraded processor and quite possibly, an updated camera as well.
