How to Remove an Unwanted Person From a Photo Using Galaxy S4 Eraser

Published

on

The Camera app on the Samsung Galaxy S4 will erase annoying objects or people in shots taken using the Galaxy S4 Eraser mode. Sometimes we get a blurry mess behind, or in front, of our subject. Eraser mode will shoot a series of 5 photos and remove the blurry guy walking across the beach in front of the sunset. It works great when we’re trying to get a picture of our friends and someone suddenly steps through the scene inconsiderately. Use it to take a picture of a building on a busy street, even if cars whiz by.

We’ll show users how to get rid of a blurry guy or other unwanted people, pets or objects in shots taken using Samsung Galaxy S4 Eraser mode.

Launch the Camera.

Then choose the Eraser mode by tapping the mode button. A carousel of optional modes pops up. We like to switch this to grid view, which makes it quicker and easier to pick from the various modes since the user can see all of them instead of scrolling through them.

Toggle the grid view of the modes by tapping on the button in the upper right corner in portrait mode, or the lower right corner in landscape mode. Tap on the Eraser icon to start Eraser mode.

The Galaxy S4 Camera app will pop up a warning to hold the phone steady as it shoots a series of five quick shots. Compose the shot and tap the still camera button.

It will fire off five quick shots in about a second or two. The app will process the images, which takes just a few seconds, by comparing them and removing unwanted moving people or objects. It comes them into one shot.

The resulting image will automatically leave all the people or objects that don’t move while erasing the moving items. There’s no more blurry guy or speeding car walking through the scene.

Here’s a before shot with someone standing in the shot. We had the person walk across the scene as we fired off the five Eraser mode shots with a single tap of the camera button.

Below, notice that the app automatically removed the person from the image.

Eraser mode works in simple situations like the scene above or below. It can leave behind shadows or strange smudges, so keep trying if that happens.

The will also display the shot with moving people or objects highlighted instead of erased. Tap the Hide moving objects button at the top to toggle this view on. Bring back parts wanted in the shot by tapping it.

Here’s the after shot hiding the object.

Don’t forget to tap the Save button to export the resulting image to the phone’s storage or else the app will lose the image. It doesn’t automatically export them to the camera roll. Here’s the resulting image we saved.
