HTC Two (M8) Specs All But Confirmed

Published

on

After launching an impressive HTC One in 2013 which received praises from many in the mobile industry, we’re now wondering what is next for HTC. If all the recent signs are correct, that will be the HTC One Two, or HTC Two, codenamed the HTC M8.

Multiple reports, rumors, and even pictures of this new flagship smartphone for 2014 have arrived, but so far nothing’s been set in stone. While the device isn’t official until HTC announces it themselves, the highly accurate @evleaks has shared the specs once more this afternoon. Confirming our suspicions of a 5-inch smartphone to take on anything from Samsung and Apple.

one-two

Previous reports claimed the device would come with a 5 or 5.2-inch display, and an upgraded processor, but those details are slightly different today. They reports of RAM are even different and lower, making it be a minimal jump over the HTC One if indeed accurate.

According to evleaks the HTC M8 (we’re calling it the HTC Two) will come with a 5-inch 1080p HD display, so no 2k resolution here. You’ll enjoy the quad-core 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM, not 3. We’ll have the same or similar UltraPixel camera on back and 2.1 shooter on front for self portraits, Android 4.4 KitKat and Sense UI 6.0 will be on board. There’s no mention of a fingerprint scanner, dual flash, or any of those other random details we’ve heard as of late.

A recent 3D printed mockup surfaced sporting what appears to be a dual-stage LED flash on the rear, but shows no signs of a fingerprint scanner to take on the iPhone 5S, so we’ll have to wait and see what HTC has planned. It may end up being in the front under the HTC logo, but that’s just a rumor at this point.

So what does all this mean? The HTC Two is coming, and coming soon. Reports suggest an early February announcement and release date, meaning most US carriers could offer the handset within the first few weeks of March. It’s already cleared the FCC stateside, so all we need now is an actual leak, and for HTC to announce the new smartphone to usher in the new year.

As a reminder the HTC Two is scheduled to arrive on all major US carriers starting with AT&T and Verizon, then T-Mobile and Sprint. All before the Samsung Galaxy S5 gets revealed.
