How to Download YouTube Videos on Windows 8.1
The Start Screen and Windows 8’s new interface might make it slightly more difficult for some users to get things done. On the other hand, its new Windows Store also make it incredibly safe and easy for Windows 8 users to download videos using YouTube apps made by third-parties. Here’s how to download YouTube videos on Windows 8:
Go to the Start Screen by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard or by swiping from the right edge to the left of your screen and tapping the Windows button.
Click or tap the arrow in the bottom left-hand corner of the Start Screen. Look for the app labeled Store and tap or click on it.
Inside the Windows Store tap or click on the search box. Then enter MegaTube, the name of a free Windows Store app that allows Windows 8 and Windows RT devices, like Surface and Surface 2, to download YouTube apps.
Choose MegaTube from the list of search results.
Click or tap the Install button on the top-left side of your display.
Give the app a few seconds to install. Once it’s done you’ll see a pop up notification on the right-hand side of your screen. Click on it to access MegaTube immediately. You can also access the app by going to the Start Screen and clicking on the arrow at the bottom in the same manner that you first opened the Windows Store.
Once in MegaTube, enter the name of the video you’d like to download in the search box. In our example we’ve searched for Transformers.
Tap or click on the video you’d like to download from the search results.
Click or tap on the Save as Video button below the video once it starts playing. MegaTube will surface a notification on the right of your screen once the download is completed.
Click or tap on the back button in the top-left corner of your screen to go back to the app’s home screen.
Click or tap Videos to get a list of videos you’ve downloaded.
All videos downloaded through MegaTube are saved to the Videos folder on your PC. If you’ve set your Windows 8 tablet or PC to store media on an external hard drive or flash card MegaTube will save it there. Click or tap on the name of the saved YouTube video you’d like to watch. Then click or tap Open File to watch that video in Xbox Video, or any other default desktop app.
From this point on that video is stored on your PC and you can play it whether you have access to the internet or not. It’s important to remember that video does take up a lot of space. As such, users who download a lot of videos could find themselves out of space on their Windows 8 device quickly.
