After months of speculation, the same time Apple’s larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 arrives on store shelves.
If this rumors is correct the iPhone 6 release date is less than three months away, which means it may be time to wait for the iPhone 6.
iPhone 6 release date rumors jumped form a broad Fall timeline to September earlier this year and now incredibly specific iPhone 6 release date rumors claim Apple plans an iPhone 6 release date on September 19th.
This is the third Friday in September, and it would line up with past iPhone timelines as well as statements from Apple partners and Apple’s iOS 8 release timeline.
Apple already detailed plans for an iOS 8 release this fall, which is as good as confirmation of an iPhone 6 release date in the fall of 2014. In March an Apple retailer in Russia told the media that the iPhone 6 release is planned for September.
In early May ifun.de reported Apple Stores in Germany are already blocking off vacation for September 15-28 due to the iPhone 6 release. It is common for carriers, Apple Stores and even shipping companies to restrict time off around a new iPhone release.
In late May Deutsche Telekom customer service representatives told customers that Apple plans an iPhone 6 release date on September 19th. And that is the date that we hear once again, along with details about the price and storage available on the new iPhone.
A report on a Chinese microblogging service claims the iPhone 6 release date is scheduled for September 19th, with a 32GB and 63GB model. The report, shared by GforGames, includes also claims the iPhone 6 price will include a 32GB for the same price as the 16GB iPhone 5s.
This rumor suggests Apple will drop the 16GB option from the iPhone 6 release, but does not include any details about a 128GB version. If this rumor is true, it suggests Apple may adopt a new iPhone 5c inspired pricing strategy that looks like.
- 4.7-inch iPhone 6 – 32GB – $199
- 4.7-inch iPhone 6 – 64GB – $299
- 5.5-inch iPhone 6 – 32GB – $299
- 5.5-inch iPhone 6 – 64GB – $399
At this point the pricing details and storage information is less than concrete as rumors do not yet agree on what kind of storage Apple will offer, only that the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 price will be higher than the 4.7-inch model.
Further support for a September 19th iPhone 6 release date is Apple’s fiscal year end. The last day of Apple’s Q4 2014 is September 27, 2014. For the past two years Apple released a new iPhone early enough to book the first weekend of sales, or more, on that quarter. In 2012 that was over 5 million iPhone sales and in 2013 over 9 million iPhone sales. With pent up demand for a larger screen and no major change to the iPhone 5s, the iPhone 6 release is shaping up to be a major event for Apple.
While there is a very good chance Apple plans an iPhone 6 release date for September 19th, it is impossible to be certain at this point. Over the next two and a half months we will likely see more concrete evidence and ultimately be in a better place to predict the iPhone 6 release when Apple sends out event invites.
In addition to larger screens iPhone 6 rumors point to a new design, an updated Apple A8 processor and an improved camera experience that may include optical image stabilization on at least one model. The new design leaks show a thinner iPhone with curved edges and more rounded corners.
