iPhone 6 Release Date Rumors You Shouldn’t Line Up For

Published

on

The iPhone 6 release date remains the biggest question about the new iPhone, and one that leaks and reports attempt to answer on a daily basis. New iPhone 6 release date reports offer details on when Apple may sell the iPhone 6, but when it comes to planning and preparing, two of them aren’t ones you should put much stock in.

Unlike past years we expect two new iPhone models that offer more than a cheaper, colorful option. Rumors suggest Apple is working on two iPhone 6 models with bigger screens, but at this point the timing of a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 release date is unclear. One new rumor explains a possible reason Apple will offer the largest iPhone 6 later.

A second iPhone 6 release date rumor starts off on the right foot, using Apple’s history to predict when the new iPhone will go on sale, even using math to explain why the iPhone 6 release date is clear as day. Although it is a possible date, the numbers just don’t add up for a conclusive for iPhone 6 release date that you should put on your calendar.

The best guess for an iPhone 6 release date is in September and multiple reports point to September 19th as the most likely date. A new report on when Apple will announce the iPhone 6 also supports this date as a possible release, which would likely mean an iOS 8 release date on September 17th.

DigiTimes reports Apple plans two separate iPhone 6 release dates for the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 to avoid any competition between the two devices. The publication cites sources as explaining,

“The different timetables have been set as Apple does not want to repeat the mistake it made in 2013 when it launched the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c simultaneously.”

This claim is counter to other reports that suggest the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will not arrive at the same time due to manufacturing yield issues or other problems preparing for a large screen iPhone 6. Although the iPhone 5c is not as exciting to every shopper as the iPhone 5s, Apple’s sales numbers don’t indicate a mistake in launching the two devices at the same time.

If anything it would make sense to announce the two iPhone 6 models at the same event, even if one arrived substantially later. If Appel only announces the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, some buyers may wait to hear more about a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 before buying, and then buy a 4.7-inch model anyway. If Apple announces both at the same time iPhone buyers can then make a more informed decision and line up for an iPhone 6 release date purchase of whichever model they want.

The second iPhone 6 release date rumor you shouldn’t put on your calendar comes from Business Insider. The publication reports that because Apple tested the iOS 6 and iOS 7 betas for 100 days the company will do the same with iOS 8. This logic means an iOS 8 release date on September 10th, and the iPhone 6 release date on September 12th.

iOS 8 and iPhone 6 release date rumors are linked, but not this tight.

iOS 8 and iPhone 6 release date rumors are linked, but not this tight.

While we often use Apple’s history to predict the release of new Apple products, the timing of software beta testing is not the best metric. Although iOS 6 and iOS 7 betas lasted 100 days, this chart shows there is no 100 day iOS beta guideline that Apple uses.

A 9to5Mac Report on Wednesday outlined a final iOS 8 beta on Monday August 4th and a golden master in late August or early September for carrier testing. If Apple finishes iOS 8 in time, September 12th could make sense, but this report also states the iPhone 6 event will tentatively take place in the second or third week of September. This would leave a very narrow window from announcement to iPhone 6 release.

It certainly seems like all the tech blogs and mac blogs are now saying the Apple press conference for the iPhone and iWatch will be in mid-September. Here is another one: https://www.itimereleasedate.com/itime-release-date-now-rumored-even-sooner-reporting/
