iOS 7.1.2 Jailbreak: Update Now Before iOS 8 Releases

Published

on

iOS 8 officially releases tomorrow (September 17), and if you haven’t jailbroken your iPhone yet on the latest version of iOS that supports it, now is the only time to do so.

iOS 7.1.2 is the latest version of iOS that’s currently available, and it’s also jailbreakable, which means that if you’re jailbroken, but aren’t updated to iOS 7.1.2, or you’re not jailbroken at all but are wanting to, today will probably be the last day to jailbreak your iOS device running iOS 7.1.2.

Of course, if you’re already running iOS 7.1.2, you can wait as long as you want to jailbreak, even if iOS 8 releases. However, if you’re running iOS 7.0.6 or any other older version of iOS 7, it’s best if you update to the latest version today before iOS 8 releases, that way you’ll be “in before the lock” so to speak.

You may be asking, what the advantages are of updating to the latest versions of iOS if you’re jailbroken, especially if updating is more hassle if you’re jailbroken, as you have to re-jailbreak when you update.

Long story short, iOS 7.1.2 comes with a lot of bug fixes and performance improvements over older version of iOS 7. Your device will be much faster and battery life will see a generous increase. Plus, iOS 7.1 comes with a handful of security fixes that make your iPhone and iPad a lot more secure against hackers and thieves.

Once Apple releases iOS 8, it will no longer sign iOS 7.1.2, which means that if you’re on an older version of iOS 7, you won’t be able to update to iOS 7.1.2 once iOS 8 is released. If you’re currently on an older version of iOS 7, you’ll have to update to iOS 8 once it’s released.

This is why it’s extremely important to update to iOS 7.1.2 today if you plan on jailbreaking your iPhone or iPad, that way you’ll have the latest version of iOS 7 installed.

As for when we’ll see an iOS 8 jailbreak, that’s a whole other story. Ever since the initial announcement of iOS 8, jailbreakers have been curious as to when an iOS 8 jailbreak would hit the public. Of course, we could rely on past history as far as when to expect it, but even that’s a little shaky.

While the iOS 8 betas have allegedly been jailbroken already, we wouldn’t get our hopes up just yet on a public release this month.

With the announcement of the iPhone 6 today, Apple also announced that iOS 8 would officially release to the public on September 17, which is just two days before the iPhone 6′s September 19 release. However, what does this mean for an iOS 8 jailbreak?

Ever since the initial announcement of iOS 8, jailbreakers have been curious as to when an iOS 8 jailbreak would hit the public. Of course, we could rely on past history as far as when to expect it, but even that’s a little shaky.

While the iOS 8 betas have allegedly been jailbroken already, we wouldn’t get our hopes up just yet on a public release this month.

In fact, we likely won’t see an iOS 8 jailbreak until closer to the end of the year at the earliest, and that’s because jailbreak developers don’t want Apple to patch up the exploits used for the jailbreak too early. What this means is that if devs were to release the jailbreak to iOS 8 right now, Apple would quickly patch it up before the final version of iOS 8 even releases to the public, and that would be bad news for obvious reasons.

We should ultimately expect the same time frame as the iOS 7 jailbreak, which was released a few months after iOS 7 was publicly launched in September 2013. Because of this, you’ll be waiting a while for an official iOS 8 jailbreak to release.
