Nexus 6 Pre-Order Details Arrive

Published

Last week after months of leaks and rumors Google finally unveiled the brand new Nexus 6 smartphone, its Nexus 9 tablet, and the all-new Android 5.0 Lollipop software update. Sadly while many have already ordered a Nexus 9, Nexus 6 pre-order and release date details remained a mystery, until today.

Google shocked everyone by announcing the new Nexus 6 would be available from all five major carriers in the United States, and that includes Verizon Wireless. And while a few have confirmed they’ll carry it, and even announced dates, Google’s been silent regarding when the phone would officially go up for pre-order.

T-Mobile quickly confirmed the Nexus 6 will be available for its customers starting November 12th, giving many a few weeks to decide if the big 6-inch phablet is right for them over the iPhone 6 Plus or Note 4, but we’ve yet to hear more details. On Friday the Nexus 6 arrived in the Play Store but wasn’t available, and now Google’s made a quick update with more details.

Nexus 6 Pre-Orders start on October 29th

Nexus 6 Pre-Orders start on October 29th

The Nexus 6 arrived in the Google Play Store just roughly two days after Google first revealed it in a post on its blog. The Nexus 6 is a gargantuan smartphone. Its 6-inch display alone makes it a tablet replacement which is why many are calling it a phablet. This is the first big smartphone from Google, aimed at the Note 4 or iPhone 6 Plus, and now we have an official pre-order date.

As shown in the image below, today Google changed the listing on the Google Play Store. While it still is only listed as coming soon, they’ve updated the page with an official date for pre-orders. The pure unlocked Nexus 6 will be available directly from Google starting on October 29th.

Confirming the new Nexus 6 will be available for pre-order starting on October 29th from Google, with the release date still unconfirmed. Again, T-Mobile has stated November 12th, but we could see an earlier arrival from Google, but we’ll have to wait and see. In the past Google’s only sold unlocked smartphones that generally work with GSM carriers only, like carriers around the globe or for AT&T and T-Mobile, but we could see all five major carriers be offered on the Play Store too.

Google’s Nexus 6 comes in two colors and two versions. Midnight Blue or white with 32GB or 64GB of storage priced at $649 and $699, respectively.

Yes, that’s expensive. As a comparison last year the Nexus 5 was $349 and $399 for the 16 and 32GB versions, but this year the Nexus 6 is a much improved smartphone in all aspects. A true flagship phablet smartphone aimed at developers, enthusiasts, and those who want to do more with a large 5.96-inch Quad-HD display. Here’s the full rundown for those interested.

Nexus 6 Specs

  • 5.96-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Display
  • 2.7 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 805 processor with 3GB of RAM
  • 32GB/64GB internal storage
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop
  • 13 Megapixel camera with OIS, 2 MP front camera (4k video capture)
  • Dual Ring Flash similar to Moto X
  • Dual Front-facing speakers
  • Aluminum frame around device like the new Moto X 2014
  • 3,220 mAh battery

Past Nexus devices had smaller batteries under the hood, cameras that weren’t up to par against other Android flagship smartphones, and less storage, not to mention the huge display. Add all that together and this is the best Nexus smartphone ever released, one of the best phones of 2014, and is priced accordingly.

We’ve yet to hear a solid release date from most carriers in the United States, but it looks like Nexus 6 pre-orders will kick off around October 29th, with a release date arriving within two weeks or so. Stay tuned for more details.
