No one expected that Microsoft would announce Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Xbox One.

Originally, this winter seemed like a lock for Halo 2 Anniversary. It’d been ten years since Microsoft first launched the game, and with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary we already knew that remaking and remastering older games for newer audiences was something that Microsoft had no problem doing.

Thankfully, Microsoft heard the cry for a remade Halo 2 and decided it would be a better idea to shatter expectations of what it could deliver. Here’s what you need to know about Halo: The Master Chief Collection and why you should pre-order Halo: The Master Chief Collection as soon as you possibly can.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is Almost Everything Halo

Maybe some insightful people with intimate knowledge of the gaming industry always assumed that Microsoft had plans to revamp the entire Halo franchise for new players at some point, but the average person didn’t and that is what made crowds go wild when Microsoft first showed off the upcoming game.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection, as its name suggests, is every Halo game to ever feature John 117 remastered for the Xbox One console. This isn’t just one game, or one game with some downloadable content. It’s literally Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4 all sold in one single package. Seriously, only Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach are missing from this and that’s because while they do take place in the same universe, Master Chief John 117 isn’t featured in them. They’re more spin offs then sequels.

It’s safe to say that the nothing defines a player more than whether they like online multiplayer or if they’re partial to the story.

For many, the multiplayer included in Halo 2 and Halo 3 were what convinced them to get an Xbox 360. Those games are what defined Xbox Live for them and introduced them to people around the world they’d have never met otherwise. Of course, these people are passionate about multiplayer in a way others might not be. Halo: The Master Chief Collection has plenty for them, including all four game’s multiplayer and all of the multilayer maps that gamers loved from them.

Its safe to say that if you’re not playing for multiplayer you are playing for story. That’s great because Halo: The Master Chief Collection has tons of that too. Every story that you remember from the past games is still here, every mission is still there too. Buyers of Halo: The Master Chief Collection can experience their favorite moments in the game as they were meant to — without sacrificing a thing.

It’s one thing to pack four different stories into one game. Buyers would be perfectly happy with that. They’d just be able to pick out a single mission they enjoyed the first time around and what to experience after each play session. Playing each game from start to finish is a pretty easy way to hit all of those highlights too.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection lets Xbox One owners experience highlights from the series in a different way. More specifically, the can experience them however they want in whatever order thanks to a special Playlist editor.

343 Industries, the game’s developer, will offer up custom-made playlists for both campaign and multiplayer on the fly. These playlists are showcased right in the game’s interface alongside options for browsing through campaigns and multiplayer. Multiplayer playlists will also be available too.
