Moto 360 Update Delivers New Watch Faces

The impressive Moto 360 smartwatch has been available for a few months now, and many owners have been enjoying everything Google’s Android Wear has to offer, including better battery life after a few recent updates. Today though, a new update to the Moto Connect app is delivering new features and more watch face options.

Back in September after months of waiting the new Moto 360 smartwatch was finally released for those interested. Since then we’ve seen new leather straps, all metal options in two colors, thinner bands for women, and now we have more features arriving.

The Moto 360 is Motorola’s new smartwatch running Android Wear. A mobile-based operating system running Android built by Google strictly for wearable devices like a smartwatch or Google Glass. It’s still new and has a few bugs that need to be addressed, but Google’s promised Android Wear 2.0 running on Android 5.0 Lollipop is coming soon. Read on to see what’s new with today’s update.

As we mentioned above, the update today isn’t an actual software update to the Moto 360 or Android Wear, and rather an update done behind the scenes by Motorola. The “Moto Connect” app on the Google Play Store is what you’ll want to update, as it hosts plenty of new goodies for watch wearers.

The update today to Moto Connect delivers five new watch faces for the Moto 360, as well as more options and deeper customization for the existing watch faces. If you didn’t know, download Moto Connect and all the pre-installed faces can be slightly customized, colors changed, and more.

Above is an image of the Moto Connect app, something that all Moto 360 owners should install and use. Today’s update has a host of new stuff, as we’ve detailed below.

  • Connect now supports Motorola Keylink
  • Connect now supports additonal Moto 360 watch faces
  • Competition winner design face-off
  • Create your own watch face with My Design
  • 3 new analog watch faces
  • Connect now has a new Moto Body wellness experience

Motorola added three new analog watch faces, they’ve added a “My Design” build your own option for those looking for true customization, and the winner of the watch-face competition from this summer has also been added. The My design lets you even add your own photos as the background, tweak colors and more.

This update also delivers a new Moto Body Wellness experience, which allows users to customize their activity tracking through Connect. Simply by adding your height, weight, age and date of birth for a more accurate reading. Android 5.0 Lollipop’s material design guidelines have been introduced to the app, and support for Motorola Keylink.

All said and done, the best part of the update is the five new watch face options and customization, not to mention the sleek new face design from the winner of their competition. We’ve yet to hear from Google regarding a major update to Android Wear, but one should be coming sooner rather than later bringing Android 5.0 Lollipop and more to our wrist.
