Nexus 5 Returns to the Google Play Store

For the first time in months the LG Nexus 5 is back in stock and available right now from the Google Play Store. Months before the Nexus 6 was released in November last year Google’s popular flagship smartphone from 2013, the Nexus 5, went out of stock and never returned. This was our first sign that a new Nexus smartphone was coming soon, and lately we’ve heard Google will end production of the Nexus 5 completely in 2015.

Last year news surfaced that Google will no longer offer the Nexus 5 in 2015, and that once inventory is gone they’ll no longer be offering the phone. Basically meaning once it’s gone it’s gone, so this may be potential buyers last chance. This came as a huge surprise as many buyers passed on the Nexus 6 for the sheer size, being 5.96-inches, and keeping a smaller Nexus 5 makes perfect sense.

If you’re in the market for something a little smaller than Google’s new Nexus 6 or the big Galaxy Note 4, the Nexus 5 from 2013 is still an excellent smartphone for the price. Read our link above for more details, then head to the Google Play Store and get one before they’re all gone.

The Nexus 5 was released back in November of 2013 after being announced at the end of October, and it debuted with the then-new Android 4.4 KitKat. It was one of the best Nexus smartphones to date, yet still had an awesomely low price of $349 or $399 for the 16 and 32GB versions. With a new $649 Nexus 6 available but out of reach for many, the Nexus 5 was a great choice that wasn’t available, until now.

The phone was in and out of stock a lot as the year came to an end, more so out of stock, and in December Google removed all colors but the black variant. This is what lead to the reports of production ending, a rumor that Google confirmed as accurate. Sometime this year the Nexus 5 will be removed from the Play Store, we’re just not sure when.

As a quick recap, the Nexus 5 offers a 5-inch 1920 x 1080p full HD display, a powerful quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, and comes with 16 or 32GB of internal storage. Add in an 8 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization and a sleek design all at a low price, and you’ll know why it was such a popular phone. See our review below.

Today the Nexus 5 in both 16 and 32GB versions in black returned to the Google Play Store. It’s listed as in stock, and will ship within 1-2 business days. This is the first time it has been in stock since December, and even back then it only lasted a few hours at best.

Google’s stated that availability will continue through the first few months of the year, so there’s no exact date as to when the smartphone will actually be removed from the Google Play Store.  That said, it’s available now for the same low price of $349 or $399 for the 32GB model, so get it before the stock runs out, as this may be buyers last chance to get a Nexus 5.

Google’s Nexus 5 has already been updated to the latest Android 5.0.1. Lollipop update and will be an excellent smartphone for years to come. Especially given the price. It won’t last long, so get it while you can.
