10 Things to Know About the AT&T Galaxy S6 Release

The start of the US Samsung Galaxy S6 release date is confirmed for April 10th and pre-orders are now live for some carriers ahead of its highly anticipated release date. With that in mind, we want to take a look at the most important things we think AT&T Galaxy S6 buyers need to know ahead of the AT&T Galaxy S6 release date for the regular model and Galaxy S6 Edge.

At the start of the month, Samsung took the stage and announced the all new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. These two flagship smartphones replace the Samsung Galaxy S5 and join the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge in Samsung’s fight against top Android rivals and the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Samsung’s new devices are tempting propositions and many buyers in the United States are beginning to take notice.

Most US carriers have confirmed the most important Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge release details including the release date, colors, storage, pre-orders, and price. AT&T is one of them.

The carrier was quick to confirm both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge and a short time ago, AT&T confirmed many of the pertinent details that potential buyers need to know about. Thing is, there’s a whole lot of information out there and it can be a lot to digest, especially for those that haven’t been keeping tabs.

With that in mind, we want to take a look at the most important things to know about the AT&T Galaxy S6 release date and some of the smaller details that we think you need to be aware of as we march closer to the AT&T Galaxy S6 release.

AT&T Taking Galaxy S6 Pre-Orders

Consider this a public service announcement. While Verizon’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge pre-orders don’t start until tomorrow, AT&T is currently taking pre-orders for both devices at its physical retail locations and through its website.

We haven’t seen any AT&T Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge models sell out and we’re not expecting a huge sell out in the future so you’ll definitely want to take your time if you’re thinking about buying either device.

Those of you that do need more time shouldn’t have any trouble finding AT&T models in stock on the AT&T Galaxy S6 release date so there’s no need to rush into a pre-order.

Pre-Orders Should Arrive Early

There is one benefit to pre-ordering though it will only interest impatient types. AT&T is well known for shipping out pre-orders ahead of its concrete in-store and online release dates. Right now, AT&T is listing the Galaxy S6 ship by date for April 8th, two days before the start of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 release date.

What this means is that there is a chance that some pre-orders will arrive ahead of the street date. In the past, we’ve seen devices show up a day or two early so if you’re in desperate need of a new smartphone and you’ve already decided on the AT&T Galaxy S6 as your next device, you might want to consider putting in a pre-order.

Don’t Buy the Galaxy S6 Off-Contract at Best Buy

Best Buy is currently is taking AT&T Galaxy S6 pre-orders online and in its physical retail locations. These pre-orders will be live all the way up to the AT&T Galaxy S6 release date. There is something that you need to know if you’re planning to go this route.

Best Buy is charging an arm and a leg for the Galaxy S6 off-contract. The base model, the 32GB variant, is going to run you $750 off-contract. A brand new 32GB Galaxy S6 off-contract through AT&T is $684.99. That pretty much amounts to highway robbery on Best Buy’s part. Do not buy the AT&T Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge off-contract there unless you have a gift card or you’re sitting on heaps of points.

Instead, take a look at AT&T or a retailer like Amazon. Amazon is selling the Galaxy S6 for the same price as AT&T. There’s no reason to pay a premium to go through Best Buy.

AT&T Galaxy S6 Release Date

Another reminder. The AT&T Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge release date is confirmed for April 10th. That is the day that the device will go on sale at AT&T and other retailers for the first time.

One thing to note is that you can go hands-on, right now, at select AT&T locations. And if an AT&T store isn’t close to you, it’s worth knowing that Best Buy is also hosting hands-on time in their Samsung Experience shops.

Galaxy S6 Edge is More Expensive

The AT&T Galaxy S6 Edge is way more expensive than the AT&T Galaxy S6. That’s the case at AT&T and it will be the case at the retailers where the AT&T models are sold. There’s no getting around it.

At AT&T, the Galaxy S6 Edge is $100 more expensive than the regular model. That includes on-contract pricing and that also includes off-contract pricing. AT&T Next pricing changes accordingly.

The big difference is the dual-curved edge display on the Galaxy S6 Edge.

Translation: You need to make sure that you actually need the curved display. Most people are probably going to be fine with the cheaper, regular model.

AT&T Next vs. Two Year Contract

We recently put together a comparison that highlights the differences between AT&T Next and a new two year contract. We highly recommend taking a look at that if you’re not sure how to buy the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge.

Three Color Options, For Now

AT&T is currently selling three color options: Black, white and gold. All three colors, and all six storage options, will arrive alongside one another once April 10th arrives.

No word yet on the green or blue Galaxy S6 variants and it’s possible that those will arrive much later in the year, if they arrive at all on AT&T. Remember, Samsung is well known for offering exclusives to carriers and retailers so unless you’re dead set on blue or green, you’re probably not going to want to sit around and wait. It could be months before we see these.

AT&T Galaxy S6 Deals

We haven’t spotted many early AT&T Galaxy S6 deals though there are two that you should be aware of ahead of the AT&T Galaxy S6 release.

Best Buy, the retailer that you should avoid if you’re going off-contract, is offering a free charging pad. The device normally costs $60. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge come with built-in wireless charging so this is definitely a deal worth looking at. There is one caveat that you need to know about though.

The retailer’s deal only extends through April 11th, or, a day after the AT&T Galaxy S6 release date in the United States. In other words, you’ll need to act pretty quickly if you’re interested in the deal.

The other deal is directly from AT&T. Those that buy either the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge through AT&T will save $50 on a Samsung Gear Circle Bluetooth Stereo Headset. For many of you, a Bluetooth headset will be a necessary purchase. The deal ends May 11th and it’s available at AT&T stores and participating retailers.

As for other deals, we’d expect some retailers to offer deals as we push away from the initial Galaxy S6 release date. The deals will likely start off small before growing larger as we move into the fall. Keep an eye on retailers like Amazon. We could see some price cuts in late April, early May.

Tons of Galaxy S6 Accessories

AT&T, like its competitors, should have a number of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge accessories in stores on day one. The carrier will have a mix of official Samsung accessories and third-party accessories available. It won’t have every single Galaxy S6 accessory in stock though.

Amazon has a ton of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge accessories on sale right now and we’re expecting companies like Mophie and Lifeproof to release their wares in and around the AT&T Galaxy S6 release date as well. You’ll definitely want to shop around, especially if you’re looking for a deal.
