How to Order Photo Prints from Your Mac

Published

on

The new Photos app for Mac is a great piece of software that allows you manage and organize your photo collection, but you can also order photo prints right from the app. Here’s how to do it.

In today’s digital world, you usually keep your photos on your computer rather than print them out and create a photo book. However, there are those special times where you want to order prints of photos to either hang them up on the wall or create a photo book, either as a gift or for yourself as a fun coffee table book in your home.

While the new Photos app for Mac mainly allows you to organize and manage your photo collection (however large it may be), the app also allows you to buy physical prints of photos. Previously, Apple has never offered anything like this that was this easy to access. All you do is select the photos that you want prints off, pick a size, and then order them. From there, it’ll take a few days to a week to receive them in the mail.

Prices are quite competitive as well, with 4×6 prints only costing $0.12 per print. However, shipping costs will be added on to that, which can be a few dollars more, depending on how many prints you order.

In any case, if you’re interested in having prints made of some photos that you took, here’s how to do it in the new Photos app on your Mac.

Ordering Prints on Your Mac

To order prints of your photos, you’ll first need to import the photos into the Photos app on your Mac. If you already imported your photos library, then you’re good to go. Otherwise, just click and drag any photos into the Photos app window.

From there, go up to the menu bar at the top and click on File > Order Prints. Click on all the photos that you want prints of and then click Add in the upper-right corner of the window.

The next page will have you select a print size that you want your photos to be in. Again, 4×6 prints are the cheapest option at $0.12 per print, while a larger 20″ x 30″ is $17.99. Choose a size that you want and click Select next to it.

You may get a pop up telling you that some photos may need to be slightly cropped in order to fit in the print size that you selected. Click OK to move on.

Toward the upper-right corner of the window you’ll see two checkboxes with the option of adding a white border or making the prints glossy (as opposed to a matte finish). Check these as you wish and then click Order Prints.

The next page you’ll need to add a shipping address if you don’t already have one in your address book. Essentially, go into the Contacts app on your Mac and find your own contact card. If you’re address isn’t included in this, go ahead and add it, and then it should show up in the Photos app. Unfortunately, there looks to be a bug in the Photos app where if you go to add your address directly in the Photos app, it won’t give you a text box to put it in.

At that point, go ahead and click Place Order to officially order your prints and ship them to your house. It will use the credit card that you have on file for iTunes purchases, so there’s no need to enter in your payment info when ordering prints through the Photos app.

I don’t know but it is very unwieldy to order a number of photos with different sizes .. was much easier in iPhoto.

Hi there, when i click the place order it comes up with credit card info etc.. then says the credit card associated with my apple Id is from New Zealand. If i wish to change stores i will have to start order again. I am very confused as I am in NZ and all my settings appear to be set to New Zealand. Is any one able to offer some advice as to how to solve this? Thank you very much
