Up until the release of iOS 9, Apple stuck with three years of software support. The iPhone 4s is the first iPhone to receive four years of support from Apple. Other phones, like the iPhone 6s, could follow suit.

At the very least you should get three and that's more than you can say for most smartphones out there. Expect the iPhone 6s to get iOS 10 all the way through iOS 13.
