Halo: Spartan Assault Coming To Verizon Windows Phones First
Halo: Spartan Assault, the first Halo game for Windows Phone 8 will come first to Verizon devices sometime in the near future.
Verizon announced today that its customers will be the first games that can buy Halo: Spartan Assault for Windows Phone 8, making users on other carriers wait for the game. Users with a Nokia Lumia 928, Lumia 822, Samsung ATIV Odyssey or a Verizon HTC Windows Phone 8X will have the opportunity to buy the game before anyone else.
While Halo: Spartan Assault carries the Halo name, it is not a first-person shooter like the console versions of the game. The mobile game is a top-down shooter with dual-stick controls. Players will take control of Commander Sarah Palmer or Spartan Davis in one of the first Spartan Ops missions in a story that links the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4.
The game will link to Halo Waypoint, so any progress made in Halo: Spartan Assault will also earn XP in Halo 4. Though the mobile game gamers can unlock new achievements and emblems for Halo 4.
Halo: Spartan Assault will also have 40 achievements of its own for gamers to unlock as well as leaderboards and weekly challenges to complete. The leaderboards will encourage gamers to replay the game to better their scores, though with 25 missions the game is likely fairly lengthy for a mobile game.
Unfortunately, Windows Phone 8 fans on AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint will have to wait to pay $6.99 for Halo: Spartan Assault.
Exclusivity is common on Windows Phone 8, but typically apps are exclusive to phone manufacturers and not carriers. Specifically, a lot of apps including the upcoming Flipboard and Oggl apps are exclusive to Nokia Lumia smartphones. Early adopters who bought the Lumia 920 on AT&T, however, can’t play the game when it first launches.
Halo: Spartan Assault will also come to Windows 8 where gamers can play it with a touchscreen or a mouse and keyboard, so there is another option out there for gamers who don’t have Verizon.
