Samsung Galaxy S4 Case Review: Black Carbon Fibre UrbanShield
The new Black Carbon Fibre UrbanShield Carbon Fibre case for the Samsung Galaxy S4 meets all the requirements for a great low profile snap-on protective case. The case is a great choice for people who like the idea of protecting their phone’s edges, back and screen, but don’t want to add much weight or thickness.
The Black Carbon Fibre UrbanShield case for the Samsung Galaxy S4 features a nice carbon fiber pattern on the glossy back. The case includes an edge around the sides of the Samsung Galaxy S4 with plenty of grip.
All the buttons and ports fit through the cutouts of the case perfectly. The edges cover just enough of the corners of the phone to keep them safe from scratches or dings. Unlike the company’s Workmate Evolution case, the bottom edge lets the user easily plug a micro-USB charger into the phone. It also doesn’t cover the on/off or volume switches.
Here’s the company’s video displaying all the Urban Shield cases.
The case snaps onto the phone easily. Taking it off can prove difficult.
Cygnett includes their protective film that covers the screen and keeps it from getting scratched by car keys in a pocket or purse. Putting the protective screen on the phone didn’t take a lot of work. An included cardboard squeegee helps remove the bubbles. The film doesn’t feel as a nice as a glass screen or the high quality as the Seidio Vitreo Tempered Glass screen protector that we love, but as a free add-on it’s decent.
There’s not much to complain about with the Black Carbon Fibre UrbanShield. It’s near the top of our favorites list for S4 cases. We recommend it for people who love low-profile snap-on cases that don’t add much weight.
For those who need more protection should consider the Workmate Evolution in orange above. All others should give the Black Carbon Fibre UrbanShield a look. If the case sounds nice but not the carbon fiber patter or the color, then look at the company’s other options in this series. They all cost $29.99 for versions that fit the S4.
Two other Cygnett options we tried include the Cache Grey or Cache Charcoal flip case that add a wallet style cover with a holder for a credit card or two. The case parts function like the Black Carbon Fibre UrbanShield, but cost a few more bucks at $34.95. Users can use the cover to prop the case for watching video or typing a document on an external Bluetooth keyboard.
Another solution from Cygnett includes the Feel snap on cases that come in a variety of pastel or dark colors, including the Mint Feel pictured below. It has a textured grip feel but functions exactly like the Carbon Fibre case. They’re all $19.99 and come in some brighter colors.
We like all of these Cygnett cases, but prefer the Workmate for rugged needs and the Carbon Fibre UrbanShield for the majority of the other Samsung Galaxy S4 users.
