BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 Delayed Until February
Back in mid-September, RIM confirmed that a major software update for the BlackBerry PlayBook would be shown off at this month’s DevCon and be released shortly afterward. Well, sad to say, but that timeline has taken a tumble as the company has confirmed that the BlackBerry PlayBook’s OS 2.0 software will not be rolling out until February of next year.
That wasn’t the only piece of bad news that RIM had for PlayBook owners today either. It also confirmed that BBM would not be coming along with the OS 2.0 software and will instead be pushed out separately at a later date.
Now, we realize that four months is a long time. However, RIM wants and needs to ensure that this update is 100% functional when it’s released. The backlash would have been immense had the company rushed the software out the door.
So, this delay gives it time to perfect the native email client and Android app player for February.
A bummer to be sure but BlackBerry owners should be used to that by now.
