Important Features: The most compelling new feature on the iPhone 5 is 4G LTE, wireless technology that is several times faster than 3G and slower 4G standards. The new 4″ Retina Display is a little bigger than what iPhone users are used to and produces better colors.
iPhone 5 Carriers: Apple’s new iPhone is initially available on AT&T’s, Sprint’s and Verizon’s networks in the United States. Pre-paid carrier Cricket will begin selling the iPhone 5 on September 28. Cellcom, C Spire Wireless, Appalachian Wireless, nTelos Wireless, General Communications. and Matanuska Telephone Associations, small carriers that cover rural areas, will also sell the iPhone 5 starting September 28.
iPhone 5 Models: Apple will sell two distinct iPhone 5 models. One will work on AT&T and other GSM carriers and the other will operate on CDMA networks, including Sprint and Verizon. There is also an unlocked version of the GSM iPhone 5, which will have a higher price tag. Each of these models will come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities. The iPhone 5 is available in two-tone white and black variations.
iPhone 5 Prices: Apple and its partners are selling the iPhone 5 for $199 (16GB), $299 (32GB) and $399 (64GB) to people signing up for new two-year wireless contracts and to those eligible for subsidized upgrades from their existing carriers. Those who are not yet eligible for full upgrade pricing will need to pay $250 to $350 more than these advertised prices.
iPhone 5 Design:
As expected, Apple The iPhone 5 borrows heavily from its predecessors’ design, but there are some key differences that make the iPhone 5 more attractive than the iPhone 4S.
The first thing users will notice is that the iPhone 5 has a larger display. Measuring 4″ diagonally, the display is the same width as previous iPhones, but it is now taller. This equates to a 16:9 aspect ratio, which is exactly the same ratio as HD video, including feature films. The taller display also allows users to view more text and graphics on Web sites and apps without scrolling. Developers will surely adapt their apps to take advantage of the extra screen real estate.
The iPhone 5 has a metal band around its edges, which are now color-keyed. The previous iPhone had a bare metallic finish around its edges.
The iPhone 5 is the thinnest and lightest iPhone yet. It measures just 7.6mm thick and weighs 3.95oz (112 grams). The iPhone 5 measures 4.87″ tall and 2.31″ wide. Despite it’s taller stature, the iPhone 5 should be easier to hold and operate with a single hand than previous models. The relatively narrow profile will make it easier to use one-handed than competitive phones that are both taller and wider.
