The teaser from Sony is over and it is now official.  Some specs from the press release on the VGN-UX180P or otherwise known as the UX Micro PC:

  • Core Solo processor, 1.2 ghz ultra low voltage
  • Slide out qwerty keyboard
  • 512mb ram ( not upgradeable )
  • 4.5” SVGA (800 X 600) xbrite screen
  • equipped with stylus for touch
  • biometric sensor
  • two built-in cameras
    • one on front for video
    • one on back for taking pictures
  • WWAN (Edge), wi-fi, and bluetooth
  • Battery life: 3 hours
  • Docking station support
  • Weight: 1.2 lbs
  • Windows XP Pro

It’ll be available in July for $1800. I’m majorly disappointed it doesn’t have the Tablet PC os, but I’m not surprised. Sony tends to do things their own way. However, this kind of keyboard in the UX Micro looks to be exactly like what the UMPCs should have. It is surprising how much it looks like the OQO, though.

Here is a link to a PC Magazine review. PC Magazine is calling it a UMPC even though it doesn’t sport the Table PC os. For $1800, it should. Install Vista on it, and it will!
