Enjoying movies on the go

MovielinkLast week, I posted that I feel Windows Vista Media Center is a better Origami experience than the “Origami Experience” that is currently available on XP and Vista. Whether you are using a UMPC or a Tablet PC, Media Center is very well done and they are hitting the mark in the mobile entertainment area.

Microsoft recently gave me a trial subscription to a service called MovieLink that enables the user to download movies and TV shows within Media Center for viewing later. Media Center isn’t required, but again, staying within that experience framework is nice.

Think of the commuter or person that travels frequently where he could watch any number of movies that were downloaded – no ripping, no portable dvd drives, etc. In addition, movies can be stored for up to 30 days, and you can watch the movie as many times as you like within a 24–hour viewing period if you went the rental route. Prices start at .99 per rental or 1.99 per movie if you wish to purchase the movie ( no storage limits or viewing limits apply)

Solutions like these are what help to make a UMPC or Tablet PC more “personal” and help meet the mobile needs of those who buy these devices. In the coming weeks, I’ll post more about my experiences with MovieLink and let you know how I like the service.

What services are others using for purchasing / renting movies to playback later on a UMPC / Tablet PC?
