DRM Free Music: Are You Buying?

Published

on

Drm-locked-cdThis week brought big news in the digital entertainment biz. Walmart began selling DRM free music at prices lower than iTunes (94 cents a track) that allow you to take your music anywhere on any player. Real Networks teamed up with MTV and will be selling songs over Verizon Wireless to your mobile phones and other handhelds. Both moves are big ones that aim to challenge Apple’s dominance in the on-line digital media market. But the one that intrigues me the most is Walmart’s. Providing DRM free music that is immediately portable at lower prices is sure to have an impact. It of course follows announcments by some of the big media labels, and Apple, that they will be making some music available DRM free. Apple charges extra for this at the moment.

So, here’s the question. Are you buying? Does having a DRM free option affect your purchasing decision for your mobile music?
