Victory for Truth in Advertising: Verizon Busted by NY For Redefining Unlimited
Well, it looks like there are some legal beagles who believe in the sanctity of language when it comes to advertising and marketing. Verizon has been catching flack for some time for stretching the definition of the word “unlimited” when it comes to its broadband marketing. Internet sleuths have discovered that in Verizon’s case “unlimited” really means 5GB. So, the state of New York steps in and slaps Verizon for terminating users because they used to much bandwidth. Looks like Verizon will be reimbursing customers who got the boot (an estimated $1 million for those affected) and a $150,000 fine to the state of NY.
