Motion Announces TELUS as Latest Canadian Value Added Reseller

Leading national telecommunications company expands healthcare offering with the addition of Motion Computing’s C5 mobile clinical assistant

MONTREAL and AUSTIN, TEXAS — July 30, 2008 — Motion Computing ®, a leader in mobile computing and wireless communications, and TELUS, a leading telecommunications provider in Canada, today announced that TELUS is now reselling the C5 mobile clinical assistant (MCA) to enhance its healthcare offering.  TELUS, which was recently ranked #1 in the Top Ten list of Healthcare IT companies in Canada by Branham research group, will offer a full suite of wireless access and software services via the Motion ® industry-leading C5.  The agreement between Motion and TELUS demonstrates a commitment by both organizations to provide next-generation solutions to Canada’s premiere healthcare organizations.

““We are thrilled to be working closely with TELUS and are confident that the C5 will help deliver a complete solution that extends the point of patient care to where clinicians need it the most, at the patient point of care, whether at home, in a hospital or regional clinic,” said Motion vice president of marketing, Mike Stinson.  ““We have worked hand-in-hand with clinicians to develop a tablet PC that is tailored specifically to the practitioners who use them.  Having some of Canada’s most innovative organizations, including TELUS, experience instant, positive impact from our device is huge validation for what we do everyday.”

Rapid advancements in e-health are enabling clinicians to significantly improve point-of-care service, whether in large hospitals, rural clinics, or the patient’s home.  With Motion C5s running on TELUS’ national wireless communications network, healthcare providers can now access mission-critical patient information, including medical history, care plans, prescribed medications and digital images associated with patient records.  Enhanced mobility and communications also allow caregivers to collaborate real-time and make well-informed, potentially life-saving decisions quickly and effectively.

““By offering Motion tablets to an extended network of healthcare providers, TELUS is taking the power of information beyond the walls of the hospital and putting it into the hands of clinicians wherever they may be providing care. The tablets will also help improve the patient experience by reducing the amount of time health practitioners are spending on paperwork so they have more time to tend to patients,” said Barry Rivelis, TELUS vice president of Healthcare.  ““We are pleased with the Motion devices, the way they leverage our mobility network and deliver our clinical homecare solutions to enable safer, more informed care, at the point of care.”

The C5  is a highly mobile device with an easy-to-use interface that supports multiple functions. In addition to handwriting and speech input, the integration of key wireless and data-capture and image-acquisition technologies, optional barcode scanner, RFID reader, and digital camera, ease clinician workloads and enhance productivity.  The highly-portable device weighs approximately three pounds and is encased in a semi-sealed protective covering that allows for easy disinfection.

Saint Elizabeth Health Care (SEHC), one of Canada’s most innovative home and community healthcare organizations, is planning a major deployment of Motion’s C5s following a pilot program in which nurses are testing various mobility solutions for electronic charting.  SEHC nurses will also be using Motion’s integrated 2.0 megapixel camera to snap digital images of patients’ wounds to be able to quickly and easily send the images and forms back to the home office for expert consultation — a simple solution to a previous inefficiency problem.

““SEHC is a pioneer when it comes to providing cutting edge technology solutions for optimal in-home patient care,” said Roy French, CIO of Information Services for SEHC.  ““We are confident our nurses will experience significant time and cost-saving performance when using the C5s, so we have plans to expand the solution rapidly to our nursing staff that conduct three million home care visits each year.”
