Where Do You Buy Memory Upgrades?

OEMs are well known for charging through the roof on memory upgrades for new systems. Whenever possible, I always buy a system with as little memory as possible; then, I buy the memory I need from places like crucial.com or cdw.com . Going through third party sites, I can save hundreds of dollars on memory.

The only exception to this rule is when buying a system, like Motion’s LS800, where doing a memory upgrade is next to impossible. I upgraded the memory on a LS800 several years ago and it was the closest to performing surgery that I’d ever been, and swore I’d never do it again.

Where do you buy your memory and what advice would you give to prospective new owners?
