Microsoft SideSight: Multi-Touch Without Touching the Screen
Microsoft has another cool multi-touch research project cooking. This one is called SideSight and you don’t have to touch the screen to make it work. SideSight uses proximity sensors around a device that can detect gestures up to 10 centimeters around a device. Move a finger close to a device and it can register as a click, or a twisting motion can rotate an image. Don’t hold your breath waiting for this to come to market because again, this is a research project.

combine that with a holographic image then maybe it will be cool :)
