image Several of us on the GottaBeMobile.com team are fortunate enough to be participating in the Windows 7 beta, and we’ve got some screen shots of some of the new Tablet PC features in Windows 7. Keep in mind, a lot of this might change between now and release. There will be more coming, so stay tuned. Warner will be filming an InkShow soon. Hit the Read More link to see the gallery of screen shots. Click the images for bigger shots.

The TIP Tab operates a little differently in Windows 7. The Tab on the left side stays hidden until you bring the pen to the screen, then the tab displays allowing you to click it to show the full TIP.   In Vista, the tab would always show and accidentally display when you moved the mouse over it . Correction: Vista has this setting, too, but it is not turned on by default like it is in Windows 7. Correction 2: turns out this might be a pre-beta thing. Others are reporting it working like Vista, defaulting with the tab showing. Oh well. Chalk it up to pre-beta. I actually like it this way, so I’m glad I accidentally discovered it.Inplace tip in the Search, etc doesn’t appear to be there   – at least not yet.

Does the keyboard support multitouch, like holding shift to enter a capital letter?

@dave s – true, but it is not turned on by default like in Windows 7

@antimatter – I don’t have the multitouch bits in this build, so I can’t answer that question right now. Hopefully, I’ll get the multitouch bits in a future build.

    With regard to sticky notes:
Is it known if the sticky notes can be transfered to notes in Outlook or to the tasklist in Outlook? In other words can a sticky notes be saved and used in another program?

With regard to using the TIP in IE8:
Can other prefilled domains also automatically be programmed? (i.e. .eu, .nl, .net etc.?)

Can you make the corkboard full screen and view all your stickies at once? Move the stickies around?

    @eric – unfortunately not

Hi Rob, if i am not wrong, you guys have an HTC shift. I’ll be grateful if someone could shed some shed light on whether HTC shift would support Windows 7 and will there be speed improvements by using Windows 7 on it instead of Vista?

It’s important for me to know at this stage because i need to decide whether to persist with HTC shift for long or not. I hate to part with the Shift as upto date it’s the best device with features which no other device has been able to replace till now … though their implementation is a bit floppy and Vista is a real resourse hog so far forcing me turn off aero all together and opt for basic ME, 97 like theme to make it work fine!

Sorry for the trouble but ur reply will be really helpful in giving the Shift a bright future!

    Thanks in advance!

We reviewed the HTC Shift last year, but do not have one. During the keynote yesterday, Sinofsky demoed Windows 7 running on a netbook, so it looks promising.

Thanks! When do you think you will be able to try windows 7 with multi touch?

@brandon – here are some math input panel screen shots showing algebra equations:

@amitai – whenever Microsoft releases a new build with those bits…

Hmmm, maybe I am being too simplistic, but W7 looks like a refreshed Vista (something that perhaps could have been achieved through a service pack)…

The real achievement will have to show that the woes of Vista (excessive fetching, etc) have been tamed in W7, and that it can effectively be used in mobile devices.

I keeep playing with the idea to make an interface with stardock.

Vista is so unfriendly to smaller format laptops and touch it’s painful. example. scroll bars on my HP TX2500 are so thin and so close to the edge of screen that they are impossible to use with touch, difficult with pen.

Is this any better? how does it look 800×600?

    Wally
