GBM InkShow: Fujitsu N7010 and Secondary Display

n7010We don’t look at a lot of 16″ laptops here at GottaBeMobile.com; but, when Fujitsu offered to send me their Lifebook N7010, which features an integrated secondary touch screen, I couldn’t resist a peek.

The integrated secondary touchscreen offers several features:

  • it is a true secondary monitor built right in to the laptop
  • a touch-based launchpad for your frequently used applications
  • A picture slideshow
  • A place to drag documents, pictures, or applications that you want to keep from displaying in your main laptop screen.

    Thanks but it’s too big.
    I would love to see a U820 inkshow, and also how practical it would be at an event like CES(and compare to OQO 02 that you used last time).

    I agree – it is a big laptop. However, the innovative secondary touchscreen is unique, and something we hope to see in more mobile types of devices like tablets.

    If Fujitsu sends us a U820, we will certainly review it.

    yes that is very big but still very cool. the REAL question is: how in the world can a machine with those specs (4gb ram, 2 screens, blu-ray, etc) only cost $1499?!

    Honestly, I still say that a secondary display is more trouble than its worth. The software on the secondary display for the launcher/ picture display, etc seems pretty neat, but I’ve had a dual monitor display on my desktop for over a year. First driver issues were a major problem with a BSOD every few days because of the ATI drivers, and now HDMI issues.

    I realize that these probably occurring in this laptop, but at the same time, is it really worth the increased price, increased size, decreased battery life, etc, to have that on there? Also, do you find yourself sometimes losing the mouse pointer on the bottom screen?

    As for the price being only $1500… its much cheaper to build a larger laptop than the smaller ones people on this site are mostly interested in.

    I was wondering it’s possible to plug in a 3rd monitor (normal LCD screen) or cause of the small screen you’ll have to turn it off ?

    M@rc – I’ve already sent the system back, but I’ll ask and find out.

    My suspicions are that it only supports two monitors.
