vista_logo_2 With most of the talk about Windows centering on Windows 7, Microsoft has been continuing to work on improving Vista and yesterday they announced that Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 are just about ready to be released to the general public. TechNet and MSDN subscribers can download the Release Candidate (RC) for both currently. A Release Candidate is the final step in the release cycle. According to Brandon Le Blanc on the Windows Vista blog:

SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 include updates that have been delivered since the release of SP1, as well as support for new types of hardware and emerging standards. As we’ve described since we first talked about SP2, we’ve taken your feedback into account when developing SP2. Specifically, we expect SP2 to continue the security benefits of both products and simplify deployment for our customers.

For an outline of what’s changed in SP2 check out what’s being called the ““notable changes document.” One assumes that there are some non-notable changes as well. Overall, don’t look for new features in Service Pack 2. The biggest addition seems to be the inclusion of Windows Search 4.0.
